josh comes over in the afternoon, much to tyler's relief. he's been alone all day and refusing to come out of his room to talk to his parents.

he frowns when he sees the empty pill bottle on tyler's nightstand, though, and whenever josh frowns, tyler's stomach twists up into a tight ball and doesn't release until he smiles again.

"you've been taking your meds."

tyler frowns, too. isn't josh proud of him?

he doesn't look proud. his lips are pressed together, his brow crinkled. "they've been making me do it," tyler replies timidly. his stomach winds itself tighter.

"they don't help you. they think you're crazy, tyler."

"i know. i understand."

"no, you don't."

and he doesn't, tyler realizes. he really doesn't. he doesn't understand anything.

"sorry," tyler says after a few beats of silence.

josh shakes his head, cracking a small smile. it's not enough to reveal his teeth, but it's enough to make the knot in tyler's stomach loosen.

"forget it."
