Chapter 19 : Cranberry Carousel

*Unedited*

"Tuhin!"

BAM!

The ball with which I was practising in my room, hit her square on the jaw and she squeezed her eyes shut in pain.

"Shit Tuhina, learn to knock!"

I went towards her to help her out (though I didn't know how). She just held up a finger at me, gesturing me to wait as she went on rubbing her jaw and I watched in horror.

"Is it broken or something?"

"Or something."

I rolled eyes at her answer.

"But it'll soon form a nice purple bruise that much I can assure you."

I handed her my spray and said, "You should've knocked. I -"

"Shut up. Wanna go to this awesome fair today evening?"

"I... uh.."

"Yes Mister, you."

"You just got hit by a deuce ball on your jaw and you're talking about going to the fair?"

"Unlike you, I don't tend to make a big deal from these petty things."

I rolled my eyes. "Just say you're in a good mood today. Else you'd have beaten the shit out of me by now."

"Wow! You know your sister so much! Yay!" she said, mocking and pulling faces.

"Seriously, Tuhina? What happened today?" I smiled as I asked. I mean, Tuhina minus craziness is something I could never accept.

"Yeah, a girl proposed me!" she said with mock enthusiasm.

Wait. Rewind. What?

Was my sister gay too? "WHA-? TUHINA - DON'T TELL ME YOU -"

"Just kidding," laughing, she pushed my jaw up, snapping my mouth shut.

My mouth formed an 'O' shape as her hands left my face. I mean, it would be weird if both of us turned out to be gay. No, why should it be weird? I didn't know. It sounded weird. Again, why? Oh okay, damn the society for its stereotypes and taboos.

"Hey, Mr. Zoner!" she clicked her fingers in front of my eyes. "Zap out of it or I'm going to hit you real hard."

"Yeah... what?"

"Fair? Yes or No?" she looked at her half eaten nails in a bored manner.

"Who all are coming?"

"You, me and Ma."

"Ma? She's in her office toh!"

"She'll meet us there. Any more questions, Mr Investigator? Just say yes or no."

"Why suddenly - "

"Seriously Tuhin, I thought you understood English? I'll translate it to Bengali for you :- Jabi, ki jabi na? Ha ki na?"
