Ice cream tears

Steve and tony arrived back at the orphanage the next day at midday, as planned. Tony sat in the car patiently as Steve entered to get Peter, few moments passed before Steve and Peter were seen leaving the building. Peter was laughing at something Steve said his smile wide and clear. "Morning Pete" Tony said once Peter was in the back, Steve in the passenger seat "Morning Mr.Stark" Peter replied staring down at his hands "oh please it's tony" He said starting the car and leaving that god forsaken building "and Steve" Steve added turning to look back at Peter who nodded before looking out the window. "So the plan is, Central Park walk around scare some kids then we can go for food, ice cream I don't really mind" Tony rambled "I don't know about you guys but I was promised ice cream yesterday so..." Steve said with a small laugh "fine well, Peter we have to give the child his ice cream so you okay with that?" Tony asked him briefly looking back at Peter before looking at the road again "ice creams good" Peter added in a small voice, tony and Steve shared a glance before looking away.

Peter was quiet the whole ride, both tony and Steve tried to get him to open up but He seemed reluctant to allow himself a fun day out, reluctant to think that someone actually cared about him. Peter still thought that Tony and Steve were wasting their Time on him where they could be adopting a cute baby. Once they reached the park tony and Steve made it their goal of the day to make Peter smile, change his mind and laugh. "wow" Peter whispered once he got out of the car, looking around he looked like a child on Christmas Day "never been to Central Park?" Steve asked the boy causing him to jump slightly, forgetting he had company "uh no, well when I was like a toddler but I don't remember it really...." Peter said looking at Steve shyly "well come on, let's walk around I brought a picnic" tony said and began walking forward, picnic basket in hand. Steve grabbed peters hand and jogged to catch up with Tony, the three of them talked about nothing really. Once they found a nice spot in the shade they sat down unpacking the picnic basket, Peter sat with his back against a tree looking around he couldn't help but enjoy himself, he was trying not too because he knew it wouldn't last he knew they'd realise they don't want a teenager and leave him and he'd be sad again. So Peter tried to push his feelings down but he found it wasn't really working.

"So Peter, you said you joined the lacrosse team to impress.. Gen? Some girl anyway" Tony asked before biting into a sandwich "well uh... Kinda yeah, Gwens her name I kinda had a crush on her but I don't think she feels the same, we're really close friends" Peter said before picking up his apple juice carton and taking a sip "I'm sure she likes you Pete look at you how could she not" Steve added slapping peters knee gently then smiling, Peter shrugged "yeah, I don't really mind all that much I mean gotta focus on study right" "nerd" "tony!" Steve hit Tony's shoulder, causing him to fall onto his backs spilling orange juice onto himself. Peter and Steve couldn't hold back their laughter as Mr. grumpy stark sat up and grabbed a cloth, trying to dry himself off. "Thanks babe, love you" he said sarcastically but couldn't help but laugh too, Steve and Peter seem so happy at his embarrassment and well it was his goal to make Peter smile and laugh. "I'm s-so s-s-sorry tony I didn't m-mean to push you that hard!" Steve couldn't stop laughing and soon tony joined in and all three men looked insane. "A-any way uh yeah" Peter calmed down his laughter before continuing "yeah I'm a nerd I wanna focus on study and stuff so I can get a scholarship into college, 'cause I defiantly wouldn't be able to pay for that" Peter finished with a sad smile. "You're a good kid" Steve said to Peter, "thanks"

"Okay boys what ice-cream do you want?" Tony said, still slightly giddy from earlier. "You're mum" Peter whispered causing Steve to burst out into a giggle fit again, Peter keeps making 'yo momma' jokes and Steve finds them so incredibly funny. "Man up Steve!" Tony shouted smiling at his husband "sorry" "you better be". "Can I get strawberry?" Peter asked "sure kid, Steve?" After a few moments Steve calmed down again and replied "vanilla" "you're boring" tony said before walking up to the counter, he heard Peter whisper 'so's your mum' tony decided to ignore that one. "Hello sir" the person behind the counter said "uh hey.. Zee" tony said reading the name off the name tag "can I get one strawberry, one Vanilla and once chocolate all large please" "yes sir" once tony had payed and received his ice creams he went and sat down at a small table with Steve and Peter, giving them their ice creams they began to chat again. "so peter..." Steve began looking over at tony who nodded, Peter caught the gesture "it's okay" he said, causing Steve and tony to look back at him again confused "what's okay?" Tony asked Peter who was staring at his ice cream "I had a really nice day today, thank you Tony and Steve. God it's been crazy I hung out with captain America and iron man, who would have thought? But I understand, you want a child" Peter rambled tears threatening to spill "Peter-" tony began but Peter cut him off again "please just- don't make a big deal okay just bring me back" Peter was crying and in a matter of seconds Steve was there, wrapping his arms around Peter who was crying into his shirt. Tony's heart broke, the poor kid was so convinced he didn't deserve a family it made tony so angry "Peter we're adopting you" tony said firmly, Peter looked up from Steve's tear stained shirt "w-what?" Peter stuttered looking between tony and Steve, his brown eyes glistening with tears. Steve nodded "we want to adopt you, we think that.. Well with our occupation and all you'd be okay... Just we want to adopt you" Steve managed to say before tears slid their way down his face but the difference was Steve was happy, wide smile "if you want Peter we would like to bring you back to stark tower, make it your home" tony said with a small smile "I would love for you two to be my parents".

The next few days were filled with paper work and cleaning the tower, Thor had returned from Asgard so pop tart wrappers were everywhere, do they even have bins in Asgard or does it magically disappear when he throws it on the floor?! "Come on guys this place is a mess!" Tony said picking up empty pizza boxes from the coffee table "sorry stark we had a party" clint said casually from his seat on the sofa "why the big fuss anyway tony this place is allways a mess" Natasha said from her seat beside clint, flicking through tv channels. Tony froze, he forgot to tell the avengers Peter was coming.... He forgot to tell them they adopted a kid "shit" tony said, causing everyone in the room to stare at him. "Uh" tony began "me and Steve kinda uh, adopted a kid" tony said casually and continued to clean up "and he's being dropped here with all his stuff" he added before throwing some stuff in the bin "wait what?" And " oh my congrats" we're heard from the living room, tony laughed "sorry forgot to tell you" "you forgot" Natasha laughed "congrats tony" Bruce said from the elevator, he must have just come up from the lab "what's his name? How old is he? What's he like?" Clint asked now fully focused on tony rather then the tv "guess you'll just have to find out" Steve added, walking in with a towel around his neck "hey babe how was gym?" Tony asked giving Steve a kiss on the cheek "good"

"Sir a boy and a woman are requesting access to this floor" JARVIS said causing tony to sit up, Peter was here. Looking over at Steve he smiled and so did Steve, "yeah Jarvis let'em up" tony said now standing beside Steve "this the kid?" Natasha asked, Steve nodded at her with a wide small across his face. A ding from the elevator was heard and Peter stepped out, dumbstruck like he was in the park eyes wide full of curiosity and awe "nice huh?" Tony said to Peter who nodded "hell yeah!" "Language"

I know it's a little shorter then last chapter I want to make each chapter at least 2000 words and this is only 1540 including this note so I apologise! Will make them longer!
