Chapter 8 | Goals

I approach Jordan and take a seat.
"Hey, you were quick." I said, catching my breath.
"I told you, I wouldn't be late."
"Yeah, yeah." I settled down.

"Do you want anything?" he asks.
"Nope. I'm good."
"Alright, so where do you want to start?" I asked.
"Anywhere." he answers.

"But before that can we relax for a few minutes?" he begs.
"But why?"
"I've just gone through calculus homework. I think my brain just lost some of its cells." he added.

"Just for a few minutes?" I verified.
"I promise." he hands me his phone.
"What's this?" I asked in confusion.
"Watch it," he demanded.

I pressed the triangle in the center of the circle to play the video and likewise, it played.
It was a video of some guy in the hospital.
"Who's that?" I whisper.
"Dad," he mumbled.

"Oh." I told myself.

The video was 5 minutes long.
Suddenly, his dad starts saying he loves them and everything sweet.
"That's me." he points to the guy, found at the bottom right corner.
They all hug together. Little did he know, that was the last embrace he would ever receive from his father.

"I didn't even want to hug him back then. I thought my family was just overreacting when they said, they didn't think we would be with him for long. Turns out, they were right." he takes his phone from me.

"That's really sad. I'm so sorry." I held his shoulder.
"A few minutes are up." he jokes.
"Uh, change topic, something happier." I suggested.

"What about English?" he asks.
"Sure."
"Have you finished all your essays?" he sat up properly.
"Almost done," I grabbed my laptop and placed it on the table and got my charger.
I, then stood up and walked to the other side of the table and sat down right beside him.

"Want some help?" he offers.
"Um, maybe just when I need it."
"If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask me." he smiles.
"What about you? Have you finished it?" I opened my laptop.

"Yup, last week." he stood up.
"I'll just get some coffee. Are you sure you don't want anything?" he asks.
"Um, maybe Passion Iced Tea? Venti?" I handed him my card but he refused to accept it.

"It's my treat." he insisted.
"I'm going to finish my paper while you get the orders, alright?"
"Alright." he went off to line up.

While he was gone, I typed on and on, trying to finish my expository essay.
After minutes in hell, I had finally put all the bridges together. I am done.
I closed my laptop and slid it back into my bag.

Right on time, Jordan had just claimed our drinks from the counter.
"Done already?" he asks.
"Yup. I told you, I was almost finished." I boasted.

"Now, that was legit quick." he handed me my drink.
"Thank you." I took the drink from his hand.
"No problem."

"Want to do something?" I asked.
"Yes!" he yelled.
"Shh," I reminded him.
"We're in a public place." I placed the straw inside the plastic cup's cover.
"Sorry, I was just a bit excited." he apologized.

"Come, I'll take you somewhere." he took my hand.
"Alright," I took my bag and left with him.

We walked to his car and I hopped on board.
For some reason, I feel so free every single time I'm with him.
I feel safe and secure, just knowing he was around.
He started the car and drove to some place.
