Soulmates (Ch 3)

(Phil's POV)
My birthday (and Dan's because we share a birthday) is soon. My sixteenth birthday. Meaning I'm getting my symbol. But I think this is a weird thing to happen because it basically forces two people to love each other. It tortures people who can't find their soulmate because their soulmate is 293,393 kilometers away. And some people don't have the same symbol as anyone. People think a soulmate is who you have a crush on at the time but really the actual definition is "a person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner." So honestly people force themselves to fall in love with their soulmate but they could just be supposed to be their close friend. There are many problems with the "system" as people call it. But I am kinda hoping Dan is my soulmate. What if my symbol is the same as Cat, my friend?

(Dan's POV)
My birthday is soon. And Phil's obviously. But this system is crap. What if you have a symbol that doesn't match your partner? Then you need to breakup with them. Also no one dates anyone until they get their symbol just because they don't want to have a broken heart. Also someone's soulmate could hate them. Someone's soulmate could be across the world. What if someone's soulmate dies before 16? Does their soulmate get another soulmate/symbol? What if all those things happen to me? Ugh this is stressful. Also some people force themselves to fall in love with their soulmate but they could be best friend soulmates not romantic soulmates because the definition of soulmate isn't who you fall in love with forever; the definition is a person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner. I don't want it to be my sixteenth birthday! I don't want a symbol. What if Phil doesn't have the same symbol as me? What if my symbol is the same as Louise, my friend?
