~ FIVE YEARS AGO ~

The flavors flooded my mouth. The delicious sweetness of the bun, blended beautifully with the juicy meat. The crunchy lettuce, the delightful tomato, and the melted cheese all enhanced the already delicious flavors. I moaned in pure and utter delight.

"Oh, my-- Wow! Lucas! Where did you find this little slice of heaven?" He smirked, his blue eyes twinkling in mischief.

"You can't tell anyone, Hailee." I nodded my head vigorously, since my mouth was overwhelmed with a taste I never knew could exist. He sighed, and looked around, as if this was a forbidden place. I raised an eyebrow, then swallowed the cheeseburger.

"Yo, Lucas. Is there something wrong? Dude, you okay?"

"Hailee, don't kill me, buuuttt..." He said, but drifted off mumbling nonsense.

"Lucas, what?"

"I skipped school, about, oh, two weeks ago and discovered this place." I widened my eyes at Lucas, who currently was smiling a cheeky, but nervous grin.

"Are you asking for a death wish?!! Your father is the Beta, and he will kill you for skipping school! Dude, have you lost your flippin' mind?!"

"Hey, I heard rumors of a delicious pla-- YEOOWW!" He rubbed the side of his head, where I smacked him. Hard. "What was that for, ya crazy woman?"

"For being ridiculously stupid and irresponsible, ya idjit!" He stuck his tongue at me. I smiled.

"Anyways, this place is definitely worth missing one, and only one, day of school. It's amazing." I chirped happily as gulped down a tasty mouthful of a vanilla bean milkshake.

"And the owners of this heaven are humans, by the way." He said casually, but my response wasn't so casual. My eyes widened as I stared at the results of my response.

"I swear, I will kill you, Hailee." I grinned sheepishly as Lucas slowly wiped the vanilla induced spit from his eyelids. Vanilla flavored spit covered our eating area as well as our booth, and especially Lucas. Before I get a lecture from my spit covered friend, Lucas sent me one last annoyed glare before checking his phone. He visibly paled and swallowed. He looked up at me with frightened eyes.

"It's my father." That took my breath away, and not in a good way. He stepped out of the booth, while walking outside and answering the phone call from his dreadful father, also known as our pack's Beta. And let me tell you, he is one scary wolf.

As I finished eating, I could hear Lucas yelling through the glass window. And if you didn't know already, we werewolves have excellent hearing, as well as amazing eyesight and enhanced strength, in both forms. But, that doesn't mean that we are all fit, even though most are.

As Lucas's yelling started to get louder and more aggressive, I quickly threw my food away and went outside to confront Licas, even though it was a bad idea seeing that he was the Beta's son, while I was only an average warrior's daughter. I gulped loudly and pushed the door open, only to get smack in the face by Lucas's raging hand. I flew back into the concrete sidewalk. I groaned, gently rubbing my side.

"That's gonna leave a bruise," I mumbled to myself as Lucas mouthed sorry. He lent me a hand and I grabbed it. As he was lifting me up, he snarled and let me go, which sent me crashing back into the hard, unforgiving sidewalk, tiny pebbles biting into my skin. I grimaced, glaring at Lucas.

"Lucas!" I snapped. But he didn't hear me as his pupils dilated out of anger. I feel anger radiate off of him. I sighed as I pushed myself off the dirty sidewalk, brushed myself off and walked towards the car. Lucky, I was the one with the keys, not Lucas. As I stepped inside the car and sat down, I saw Lucas, in all of his fury and rage, stomp over to my car. He opened the passenger side, and slammed it with such force that it rattled the entire car. I growled a warning.

"Lucas! I understand that you're mad and everything, but control yourself! This is a present from my parents!" I snapped at him. He growls back, not liking my condescending tone.

"Apparently, my father needs me back, like, now. He's using his angry tone, once again." I sighed as Lucas grunted, ending his explanation. I turned on the ignition and quickly drove back to the pack house.

As we neared our territory, the fresh smell of blood wafted into our sensitive noses. The roars and screams of wolves and humans invaded our hearing.

"Something's not right." Lucas said as he started to shed his clothes. I pulled the car over and quickly took off my clothes. I felt the bones shifting underneath my skin. Don't believe what they tell you, shifting is painful every single time. I shook off the last bit of pain, which sent my dark chestnut fur into a frenzy, and looked up, only to see the gray coat of Lucas. He turned around and shoot off into the distance. I followed him, leaving the car unlocked.

Hurry! Our territory has been breached! And they seem powerful, so be careful! Lucas snapped at me through the pack link. I barked in return.

As we approached our territory, we stopped in horror as we saw the effects of the territory breach.

Holy crap, Lucas said. I whined.

Holy crap indeed.
