"It'll Never Work Out Because..."

After getting past the buff security guard, we finally got into the Boiler Room. Inside was a huge circular room that appeared to be painted black with glow in the dark stars on the walls, and a bar to the left with booths on the other side. In the back was the stage where Steven was arguing with Joe about something.

If I knew Steven, it was probably because he thought Joe’s guitar was out of tune. Being the perfectionist that Steven is, he can never let something like that go.

Above the stage were a few spotlights aimed toward the band and a burgundy curtain at each end of the stage that, after the show, would conceal the band.

“It’s so loud in here” Angela commented.

“And they haven’t even started playing yet.”

We made our way through the crowded thoroughfare toward a round man who was passing out backstage passes. I recognized him as Sonny G. He was the guy that was handling all of the Aerosmith merchandise and passes. He was Italian with a thick Brooklyn accent. He had a short scruffy beard and dark eyes. He was a pretty nice guy. He knew us, well, me at least.

“There’s Sonny” I said casually.

“Who?”

“Him.” I pointed.

“And who is ‘him’?” Angela asked.

“Sonny is this guy that hands out t-shirts and stuff. He has backstage passes. Look, I know him. He’ll give us passes.”

“Okay” Angela said, taking a cocktail from a nearby tray. No one asked her how old she was because in a place like this, no one cared.

“Hey Sonny” I said, smiling.

“Hello hon’, who’s this young lady?” He said, looking at Angela.

“This is my best friend, Angela.” I introduced her. “Angela, this is Sonny.” Sonny put his hand out and Angela did the same. Then Sonny took her hand it kissed it.

“A pleasure” He said.

“Nice to meet you, Sonny” Angela snapped, taking her hand back when she noticed him staring at the chest of her low cut blouse.

“Likewise; You girls need some passes?” Sonny asked. He was talking to us and handing out t-shirts to fans simultaneously.

“That’d be great” I said and grabbed the laminated cards he was holding out to me.

“Yeah, thanks.”

“No problem.”  He paused. “You need anything, just ask me.” He winked at Angela.

“Don’t hold your breath” Angela said sharply. I could tell she was feeling uncomfortable.

After we had our passes and Aerosmith started playing, we really started having fun. Waiters brought us drinks and we sang along to the songs from Aerosmith’s new album. The first song in the set was Dream On. I watched intently as Steven danced, unable to take my eyes off of him. There was something magical about him that I could just never ignore. I was so glad that we were in the front row.

“He is kind of hot, ya know” Angela shouted over Steven’s voice.

“I know. He is. But don’t you dare” I shot her a serious look. She lifted her hands up defensively. She was used to getting any guy she wanted and I wanted to make it clear that she was not doing that with Steven.

After Dream On, they played Mama Kin, followed by Movin’ Out and Somebody.

“I love that song.” Angela said, talking about Somebody.
