Growing Up Mafia

1.) Run

-Gianna's POV-

Run.

It was all I could do at this point, and even that wouldn't help me. My heels clanked loudly on the stone sidewalk, legs burning with every stride I took. I didn't know how much longer I could keep running from my enemies, but I did know it wouldn't be much longer.

I let out a scream as my feet left the ground. Someone had put their arms around me and picked me up from behind as if I weighed absolutely nothing. I kicked and screamed even louder, but his hold on me stayed as tight around me as a snakes around its prey.

"Why'd you run, little rat? You know how bad that looks to the Boss, don't you?"

"Shut the hell up, Tony!" I recognized the voice easily. It wasn't easy to forget something as awful as the sound of it. "Put me down!" I kicked the air again, this time my shoe went flying forward, hitting the ground with a loud clank. I kicked the other one off just so that I didn't look like a complete psychopath.

He dropped me, hard. "Put her in the car," he instructed to one of the other guys that had just ran up, "Rafael wants her at the docks in ten minutes," as he walked past me, he shoved my head to the side just for shits and giggles.

The other guy came towards me and wrapped a foul tasting cloth around my mouth. I wondered how many other mouths this had been in. He then put something over my head so that I couldn't see and I almost thanked him.

I could feel the individual boards of the dock under my bare feet and the looming presence of a handful of mafia men with an unknowing amount of weapons on them.

The pillowcase, or whatever it was, was ripped off my head as soon as I was instructed to stop walking, whoever had done it also took a few hairs with him. I would have barked an insult at him, but the gag was still around my mouth.

I looked up and was immediately met by the coldest, dark eyes I've ever seen in my life. Rafael D'Amico, the worst kind of man. A killer and a heartless monster.

I wasn't afraid of a whole lot at this point in my life, but I was beyond terrified of him and what he was capable of doing. He had total control of me and my family, this whole god damn city too and he was painfully aware of it. The whole country knew who he was and wouldn't dare cross him.

I had crossed him.

"Take the gag off her," he instructed the man standing at my side with the toughest grip on my arm. He used his free hand to tear away the cloth from my mouth, "You've caused my men trouble bella, haven't you? And by causing them trouble, you've caused me trouble. What are you doing messing with the mafia?"

I ignored him and looked past him at the man with his back to me, squirming under the chains wrapped around his body. "No," I whispered, "Don't."

"Don't what, Gianna?" Rafael asked, the most sinister half smile coming to play across his lips. Did he find this fun?

"Don't kill him! Giuseppe! That's my brother!" I somehow managed to get out of the guys grip and ran towards my older brother who was constantly taking hits by Rafael's men. Rafael caught me before I could do whatever my rash mind thought best at the moment, "Please, don't hurt him."

Rafael pushed me back, another guy catching me before I fell, "You and your family are rats. I kill rats before rats kill me. What part of that do you not understand, bella?"

"Stop calling me that!"

"Take her back to the mafia house. We won't kill her yet. She's feisty, I like it. As for her brother, tie the blocks to his feet and push him in," he told everyone before walking away.

"No!" I screamed as I watched Giuseppe crash into the ocean.
