"Are you even listening to me?" Maia asked in exasperation.

"Hmm, no." Keira said, rolling her eyes.

"I can't believe you."

"Believe it."

Keira scowled at Maia.

"Besides, what do you care?"

"What do I care?" Maia almost screeched. "I'm your best friend! And maybe you'd see that people actually care about you if you just stopped being so cold for once! Would it kill the ice queen to admit she has feelings?"

Keira fought to keep a disinterested expression on her face. Her mind was swirling with thoughts. Maia looked betrayed. She stormed the room. People started to whisper. She caught snippets of their gossiping, all disproportioned opinions of what had transpired. No doubt she'd be getting more and more glares- Maia was popular too. Not that it mattered.

She was immune.

And as quickly as Maia had left, two random girls walked up and began to chatter absentmindedly, filling in for her.

Did Keira have a best friend? She couldn't tell. She didn't even know what that was supposed to feel like.
