It actually killed her to act so cold. She didn't really want to be mean to Annie. She didn't really want Mitchell to see her as heartless.
But sometimes it was easier than admitting you were human and had feelings and made mistakes and had hopes and plans for the future and how to be happy.
Because that's just it.
