dimming lights

I was no stranger to the dark and the gloom
And thus, it seemed hilarious to ever assume

That someone as light and happy as summer days
Could ever find a mystery like me to be a craze

I thought the world as grey; cruel and unjust
But when I heard you laugh, it was not lust

It was curiosity. Longing? You and your pretty smile
Though the people around you seemed to just die

We're a cold society, we should be left bitter
But when I first saw you, I knew I was smitten

I wore sunglasses, to shield me from light
But you made something within me wake up and fight

I want to be with you, for days forever more
But when I look into your eyes, I know what's in store

Though we talked and we laughed and you lightened my world
And I realized you were a miracle, not just any girl

You're warm, surely, but I knew you sought better
Why bother youself with those who don't matter?

When I took off those sunglasses, my fate was sealed
To love you, I could but for you? I was healed.

And so you left to spread the word of shine
But only God knows how much I want you as mine

A/N: First time writing an actual poem that rhymes apart from cheesy limericks, haha. The theme of "sunglasses and the friendship zone" was given to me by good, old @KHResurreccion and I hope that I've written something satisfactory. c:
