Beating Hearts For Bully Victims

I wrote twelve poems about her,

But it's not coming out the way I want.

I tried using a hundred different words,

And tried every new downloaded font.

It never sounds like what I have in mind,

So I'll just go along with this one now.

I want to show people how great she was,

But sadly, I have no idea how.

They would have to have known her,

To know what the world is missing today.

But I can tell them why she isn't here anymore,

There are so many things I need to say.

People her age felt like they were better,

Even though they had the same insecurities.

She was bullied with words and mean looks,

And now she is an example in those bullying charities.

Her parents lost a sweet and innocent child,

Because 16 is way too young to be called grown up.

Her friends stood beside her bed only days before,

Cracking jokes about the color she had thrown up.

Everyone thought things were getting better,

Instead it was going down all those years along.

We were devastated even though somehow we knew,

But now we keep wondering where it all went wrong.

Nothing hurts as much as losing someone you love,

It hurts even more if their death was a human's mistake.

If those people didn't call her names and point her way,

Who knows, we might be baking her birthday cake.

She could have had a future full of happiness,

And we could have been laughing, all together.

But instead she lies buried underneath the ground,

Where slowly, people will forget her.

Bullies might grow up to be respectable people,

But they still killed a person who had the right to be here.

Why are they not punished for what they did or do,

It's murder now and it will still be murder next year.

Why does nobody see the importance in all of this,

It can be your future kid who gets bullied and commits suicide.

My best friend doesn't deserve to be forgotten,

Because when she died, a piece of all of us died.

I want to show people that it's never one person that dies,

When a person dies, they leave behind people they love.

So this is in memory of all the bully victims and to the world,

To everyone: please, be someone you can be proud of.

Right now, 34 hearts are beating for bully victims, every single day.

Does yours?
