Spero <3

I want to tell you the story of Spero,

Because he needs someone to speak.

I hope to be able to be his voice,

For his is now way too weak.

I found him on Sunday 31th June,

In the back alley I use as my shortcut.

He was trapped inside a plastic bag,

Thrown away like he was just some mutt.

His right front leg had a deep wound,

So deep that you could see the bone.

When he saw me he bared his teeth,

Letting me hear a low pained groan.

His eyes were crusty and seemed tired,

And his fur was wet and stank terribly.

I wanted to help him so I reached out,

Only then he growled and bit me.

A scared dog always bites, I know,

That's why I knew he actually wanted help.

So I talked him down and let him sniff me,

I took him in my arms and he let out a yelp.

He had been kicked in his stomach,

And burned on the underside of his paws.

I fell in love with this depressing being,

In my eyes he didn't have any flaws.

I took him to a trusted animal doctor,

He needed to stay the night there.

She thought he would die overnight,

But the treatment only seemed fair.

But that dog was a brave fighter,

And I could pick him up the next day.

Stitches are littering his entire body,

But I'm happy because he'll be okay.

145 Euro was spend but it's worth it,

Because a life is worth much more.

If I hadn't walked through that alley,

He probably wouldn't be alive anymore.

I kept him and named him Spero,

A friend said it's Latin, meaning Hope.

Why didn't the abuser see his value,

There was a real beauty under the soap.

I had to fight with mum to keep him,

And have to give her my weekly cash.

But who knew those who are worth it,

Can be thrown out like filthy thrash?

He still has wounds and a limp,

But he looks much better than before.

Now he lies with me on my couch,

Leaning in so I can pet him some more.

Everyone deserves a second chance,

Except for the one who ruined the first.

Abusing innocent and silent animals,

Is sickening, depressing and the worst!

So Spero will be in my care from now on,

I hope he can forget his previous life.

The abuser is lucky Spero didn't have chip,

Because he deserves to be killed with a knife.

Dogs are family.
