x. IN WHICH SHE SUFFOCATES

○ ○ ○

Scott McCall, Stiles Stilinski, Kira Yukimura, Malia Hale, and Logan Dunbar all stood huddled together against the wall of lockers outside the classroom they would be taking the PSAT in. They were all anxiously awaiting the arrival of the last member of their group to arrive. Carter Hale was running late for the PSATs, which only resulted in Stiles, Scott, and Logan's nerves going into maximum overdrive. None of them had the supernatural ability to tell if she was safe or not—and that fact bothered them.

"Where is she?" Stiles questioned, his eyes anxiously glancing between his friends. "I mean, I remember Scott and I talking about it with her last night. After we left Scott's house and I took her home, we got a bit, uh—distracted, but she should still be here."

"I thought you were supposed to pick her up this morning?"

"She texted me this morning and told me that she was going to drive herself instead."

"She's probably just running late." Kira suggested, glancing over to see what Scott thought about the whole situation only to be given silence when she realized that his eyes had yet to leave the door Carter would be coming through when she arrived.

"Holy sh—!"

The three teenagers that weren't looking at the door moved their heads to see that the brunette they were waiting for had walked through the double doors—managing to trip over the threshold and fall toward the ground. But, using her werewolf reflexes, she grabbed onto the door handle and steadied herself before she collided face first with the tile. She was flustered; pushing her freshly washed hair out of her face as she half-jogged down the long hallway. They all seemed to notice how rattled she looked; her clothes were wrinkled and practically thrown on in a quick attempt to get to the school on time. Scott and Stiles both seemed to notice how the top of her bra was showing due to the low tank-top she was wearing—feeling their faces heat up as they tried to cover it up by yawning and coughing.

"God dam—!" Carter muttered under her breath as she hastily adjusted her tank-top so her bra wasn't showing. "Hey, guys, sorry I'm late," she apologized, standing in between Scott and Stiles. "I had to take another shower this morning to make sure all the mud from last night was out of my hair."

That caused Stiles blush once more, immediately recalling to their make-out session in the rain while they were both covered in mud. He scratched the back of his neck in embarrassment, Carter rolling her eyes in mockery of how flustered he was over what happened causing her to gently nudge his side with her elbow. Scott's face fell when he had finally put together what Carter's underlying tone meant and the brunette sighed. Guilt crept up in her stomach, mostly because she knew that Scott hadn't completely grasped the fact that she and Stiles were sort of a "couple" now.

The silence was interrupted when Kira asked: "Where's Lydia?"

"She took it her freshman year," Stiles answered.

"Does that mean I could have taken it some other time?" Malia whined, looking around in a constant state of nervousness.

"Malia," Scott began, finally moving his eyes off Carter. "You studied harder for this than any of us."

"Doesn't mean I'm going to do good," Malia snapped, rocking back and forth on her heels as she grew more and more anxious.

Carter physically flinched back at the girl's grammar, "Well."

Malia's head snapped toward the brunette, "Well...what?"

"It's do well, not good," Stiles clarified, catching onto what his girlfriend was pointing out.
