I wrote stories of a love
That had gone out of tune--
Won't you sing it in my ear?
Because lately all I've been hearing are silences
And the pitter-patter of lonely tears.
I know I starved you to death,
And you looked for me
In the spaces between the city lights.
You remembered that I loved the dark--
I always kissed you at night.
But you were a star,
Hot and bright and burning,
You smothered me in a love made for forever,
When I was nothing but the void in between.
I can still see your smoke
Dancing in the wind
And the shadow of your smile.
It only took a girl like me
To ever make you cry.
Remember me in your bones,
I'm not coming back,
Write these memories down,
Fold the paper into quarters,
And burn it all to black.
