I woke up in the middle of the night, I thought long and hard. This wasn't the life I was meant to have, I know it couldn't be.

I went to my brothers room to see him sound asleep, curdled up in his baby blanket. His chubby cheeks were a shade of pink, his black hair was all messy, and drools ran down his chubby chin.
I lean down to kiss his forehead when his eyes flutter and slowly open.

"Vone! Vone!" He jumps up wrapping his little arms around me. He looks up to me with those big hazel eyes and smiles.

"Hey, I love you so much..." I squeeze him tight as I kiss his chubby cheeks.

He giggles, " Now go back to sleep sweetie." He grabs his blanket and pulls it over him; slowly closing his eyes.

I stand there staring at him as he falls back asleep, Lazaro I love you so much and leaving you is the hardest thing.. I'm so sorry little brother.

I packed up some of my stuff and snuck into my parents room and took all of the money out of their wallets, it wasn't much but it will have to do. I started to hitch hike, not caring where I go. I just want to get away, finally someone stops. It was a truck driver of a huge semi, I thanked him and jumped in. "So where to?" he asked as he adjusted his hat over his black hair.

"As far as you will take me." He nodded and handed me a small blanket.

"It's going to be a long drive; I suggest you get comfortable."

"Thank you, Sir. I really appreciate it."

He nods and looks over to me, "So what are you running from?"

"I just want a new life is all." He smiled, "I get that. That's the whole reason I started driving these trucks. for a new life and to go around and see the world."

He told me all about how his family was poor and both of his parents were not around all that much, so it was up to him to support his 6 younger brothers and sisters.

We ended up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I got dropped off at a motel, and that's when I decided to go to college.

I met a sweet old lady named Margaret who gave me a job at the motel to clean in exchange for a place to live. Not too long after, Thankfully I was able to find a few minimum waged jobs quickly from serving at a diner and working night shifts at gas stations. I saved up enough money to obtain a new identity so that monster would never find me... I refused to go back to that life I once lived.

7 Years Later

I finally was getting my life together, I put my application in at Draven Company. Surprisingly they were interested in me, my interview was scheduled for today. I'm so nervous, I bought a white blouse and a black skirt from Goodwill to look professional. It may not be the best or most expensive but it will do. I stare at myself on the mirror, "You got this!" I whisper to myself.

As soon as I was ready, I was off to the interview that could determine my life. I looked around my small one bed room apartment in a shady side of town, "I will get this job and find a new apartment!" I smile to myself. This a new beginning for me.

I close my door behind me, locking it. I look down at my phone, "oh shoot! I'm going to be late!"
I run down the stairs and out my apartment complex door. I run over to an open taxi, "Draven  building please."
The driver nodded, I can feel myself sweating..

"It's okay.. just breathe." I whisper to myself.

The taxi driver pulls up to the curb, I swipe my card and bolt out.

"Thank you! Have a good day!"
The driver shoots his hand up, thanking me.
I walk up the building.. "oh wow."
The building was huge, I feel so out of place.
I slowly walk to the reception desk with a beautiful woman sitting behind the desk. She had brown hair, blue eyes, pink plump lips, cute freckles dusted delicately across her cheeks and her nose.
