Hello
My name is Green
Much like the grass
But not quite the same.
I would explain
But I do not want to.
Today
Is Valentine's Day,
Which I had totally forgotten
Until I found Mr. Denver
With his parched smile
And shiny head
Walk over to Mrs. Renda
And give her
A single rose.
I haven't seen her smile
Ever since her son
Went to fight
And never came back.
Ma's was the second smile I saw
And Papa was the third
When he came home
With candies
And even more roses
Than Mr. Denver.
When Skye and I
Went shopping for roses
For our Ma's
I saw no more smiles.
I told her
Of my wish
That the love in our neighborhood
Would spread throughout
The town.
To make me feel better
Her arms
Wrapped around me
And she smiled.
Today is Valentine's Day
Yet I have only seen
Five people smile.
