"If war wasn't declared between our relationship then that's your fault. You keep finding your way back to me like a magnet and making me save you," he says with disgust. "But I think you're missing the point. Nebula is at war with this realm now. And she will burn this place to the ground in weeks. Then once she's found all six infinity stones there will be nothing stopping Thanos from destroying the rest of the universe. There's nothing we can do. So I'm going to find my own way out and you are not stopping me."
I snarl at him but don't have time to answer before he continues.
"The Avengers will be here to tell you the world is safe... What a statement. It's an illusion to think you're safe; a comforting lie told to protect you... and I'll have no part of it," he turns to continue walking.
I run up and grab his arm to stop him. "But it isn't safe. The Avengers can't stop this. This is beyond the Avengers knowledge or abilities. Hell, this is beyond any of Earth's knowledge! You are the only one who can have some knowing about this... this Thanos guy and his daughter," I pause, the dots finally connecting in my head. "Thanos. He was the one who was controlling you, wasn't he?"
His expression is hard as he looks into my eyes and I hardly have to tap his mind in order to find out he's repressing a painful memory from the torture and mind control that this dark villain paid him. But why? What did Thanos want in order to use Loki to get it? But then it makes perfect sense. The Tesseract was here. And he needed someone to fetch it. Not only that, he must know the Avengers are a threat. And Loki would insure their destruction.
"He didn't control me. My actions were my own," he lies. "Thanos and I had a deal. If I brought him the Tesseract then he would give me an army; an army that would insure my conquer of this pathetic realm. The scepter was my ruling symbol for that force. He gave it to me before I came."
I sigh and shake my head. "Your title may be the god of lies, but you are terrible at lying."
"To someone who can read thoughts I'm sure anyone would be," he lifts a brow. "But I wasn't lying. Thanos isn't someone you want to mess with. He doesn't have the great sense of humor and charming personality that I do," he smirks.
I roll my eyes. "And the egotistic god of mischief is back."
"Did you think I left?" He frowns.
"No. I just thought that you would be thinking about something other than yourself at a time like this." I say as I gesture to my surroundings.
He looks around. "Well it's definitely a valid competition," he teases.
I roll my eyes. "You are so irritating. And I just have one question. Are you really going to leave?"
He stares at me for a long moment as his smile disappears. He looks down with guilt and then takes my face in his hands gently, sending me with shock at the gesture and makes my whole body freeze. His eyes dance in mine with sadness...
I wait for him to say something and that's when he pulls back with a smirk and plain eyes when he says, "Yep," and turns to leave, holding back an amused grin.
He just loves to play with people doesn't he?
As he strides I stand there in frustration but he doesn't get far before something smacks into him so hard it sends him smashing into a pile of rubble to his left.
His brother, the god of thunder, stands there looking more furious than I have ever seen him as he grips Mjolnir.
Loki starts laughing as he lies there on the debris on his back. "And speaking of the witless oaf," he says as he stands back up.
