I couldn't even speak, for one, I was too shocked. And Lance didn't give me the chance to. As soon as he said that, he continued. "We both have noticed how you never give input, you always hang back, and you even make poor Rejina take up all of your leader duties!"
After a few moments of blank shock, I felt anger. What was he going on about?! 'Poor Rejina'? She was the one who took my job!
"What?" I whispered, fur suddenly standing on end. "Are you actually serious?! She was the one who took my job!"
Lance's eyes widened. Whatever he had been expecting, it evidently wasn't that. I noticed the fire on his tail grew a bit larger at that. "What are you talking about?" He exclaimed, "Rejina's been nothing but nice! You're the one who dumped your jobs onto her!"
I snorted, eyes narrowed and tail lashing. He was actually taking up for her? I was the one who'd been his partner first! " I did not dump my jobs onto her! She took them!" Lance opened his mouth, about to retort, but I cut him off, "And as for your last two claims, you don't let me do anything! You've been ignoring me! And you don't even listen to my opinions!"
Lance took a step forward, glaring at me. "No! And you haven't even tried to be nice to Rejina! She's done nothing to you!"
I stepped forward as well. "I've tried! But she hates me, she gives me nothing but spite! And why have you been ignoring me, then?!"
"I haven't been ignoring you!" The gap between Lance and I was considerably smaller now, both of us stepping forward in our anger. I was digging my claws into the ground, not even wincing at the strain. Lance continued. "You've been pushing both of us away! And when have we not listened to your opinion?"
I laughed, though it was humorless. Was he actually serious? I faked a thoughtful look. "Hmm...let me think. How about when you two changed our team name? Or when Rejina took my bed? Or when--"
"Rejina's done nothing wrong here!" Lance cried, now practically nose to nose with me. I snarled, fur bushed and tail lashing as fast as it could. "You're just being difficult! Rejina's much easier to work with!"
"Then why don't you just make a team with her?!"
Our voices had risen to shouts by then, and my temper was flaring. Rejina was this, Rejina was that, why couldn't he just see what she really was?!"
"Maybe I will!"
Words couldn't even describe how angry and hurt I was. I gave my so-called partner the most venomous glare I could, turning away. Lance's eyes widened, and he suddenly realized what he just said.
"N-no, Stormy...I didn't..." He stammered, but I was already stalking away.
"I don't care." I spat, voice cold, fur bristling. "Just leave it."
As I was walking towards the main room, I heard Lance hurrying up to me. I felt his paw on my shoulder, and shook him off. "Leave me alone!" I snarled, and ran.
The room was dark now, but light was still coming from the sunset. It was empty, but I paid no more heed to my surroundings. I managed to climb up the ladder, and hurried until I was outside the guild.
Lance hadn't followed, thankfully. I was too angry to even care if he apologized, if he begged for forgiveness. I ran to my little spot, where I went whenever I felt down or any negativity. It was the little cliff behind the Guild, where I could see horizon and the forest surrounding.
I slowed to a halt at the edge. I could feel the hurt of what he said actually seeping in now. He actually said he'd rather be on a team with Rejina than me. I sat down with a thump, letting my shoulders slump. To my relief, tears never came. I usually wasn't one to cry, no matter what.
Breathing deeply, I tried to calm myself. Staring at the scenery seemed to help. I could smell the fresh scent of the trees, and the crisp air. Soon, I had calmed down considerably.
Then I heard someone approaching. I sighed, thinking that it was Lance. "Look, Lance. I don't really--"
I cut myself off as I saw Rejina standing, ten feet away. "Lance told me to find you." She said, shuffling her feet and looking towards the ground.
I stayed silent. In all honesty, I didn't want to go back in. At least, not with her. But I felt a bit of discomfort as I noted how her posture had changed, how her whole demeanor was different. She looked...nervous. I felt a pang. Maybe I had misjudged her after all.
"Okay, I guess I'll go inside." I sighed, getting to my paws.
But then I was flung to the ground before I could react. One moment, Rejina had been away, the next she was holding my down. Her mask of nervousness changed into a sneer, her eyes cold and narrowed.
"W-what are you doing?" I demanded, struggling to free myself. Dread settled itself in my stomach at the look in her eyes.
"Oh, you were right all along." She laughed, glaring at me and smiling. "I wanted Lance all to myself. I needed to get rid of you." Rejina pressed down on my shoulder harder, ignoring when I tried to escape by using my claws.
"I hoped you would leave yourself...but that isn't going to work."
"Get off me!" I screeched, "I don't want Lance!"
The Piplup's smile suddenly dropped, in favor of a snarl. "Liar!" She hissed, and when I tried to say something else, she slapped her wing over my mouth. "You're just lying to save yourself."
I shook my head wildly, still struggling like mad. Then, suddenly, she jumped off of me and backed away. I jumped to my paws, heart pounding and trembling.
Before I could move, Rejina ave me a taunting smile. "Goodbye, Stormy." She said. She inhaled, and suddenly blasted the rocks in front of me with a powerful beam of bubbles. The rocks holding me to the cliff crumbled, and I was sent--along with a ton of rocks--tumbling down the cliff, head over tail.
