My Only Exception

Chapter 14

After Katie and I came inside we made popcorn and watched some more movies. It was around 8 and we had noticed that neither of our moms back yet. I went upstairs and grabbed three of the biggest blankets I could find. 

"Lets make a little area on the floor and lay here. If our moms arent back by 10 then we can just sleep here like we used to when we were younger. " I say spreading two of the blankets out one on top of the other and handing the last one to Katie for us to cover up with.  

"Yea, Or if they come earlier than 10 then we can act like we fell asleep out here so my mom wont make me go home, she will just leave me here and we can go up to your room, and I can stay the night. "

"Yes!" I laugh. "We sound so childish, like little girls right now" I say as I change the movie and wrap the blanket around the two of us. 

"Yes we do, but I miss this, I miss when we used to have sleepovers ALL the time. I miss back in middle school when we had clothes at each others houses because we would spend so many nights sleeping over at each others places" She says positioning her self to get comfortable. 

"I miss it too" I say wrapping my arms around her and squeezing her tight. 

We watch the movie and at about 9:30 we heard the key jiggle in the door and we both jumped up instantly. We were grabbing the covers and snatching them trying to get the both of us covered up, before we closed our eyes. I was trying my hardest not to laugh and it was pretty difficult. I couldnt see if Katie was laughing or not but  I was hoping that she wasnt or the whole plan would be ruined. I hadnt had this kind of fun in a long time and I was loving it. All of the lights in the house were off except the one over the stove and the small dim light in the dining room, which made it alot easier for them not to see our faces. 

"Girls... Katie?..." I hear her mom say as they enter the door. 

I heard the foot steps get louder and louder as they got closer before the living room light was switched on. 

"Here they are." I hear my mom say as she came and kneeled down in front of me. 

"Angela, honey you guys get up. Go upstairs and get into the bed." She said as she lightly shook me. 

I did the best fake yawn I could before slowly getting up, with my eyes half closed as if I had just woken up. I was half way up the stairs when I saw Katie coming behind me. Once we got around the corner we scurried into my room and closed the door. 

"I cant believe tha actually worked" I say as I climbe into my bed

"I know" Katie laughs 

We both get comfortable in bed and talk about all kinds of things, and memories until around 12 when we fell asleep. 

The next morning I got up and saw Katie had already went downstairs. I reached over and saw it was 11:30. I got up and showered before going downstairs. I ate a bowl of ceral and I was contemplating on wether or not to go to the mall before I remembered that I was grounded. I was really unsure of what to do, because there wasnt much to do in the house that could keep me occupied. Katie had to go help her mom clean the house, because her grandmother was coming later in the week. 

"Well I am assuming you arent going to do anything but lounge around the house so you can help me cook" My mom says as she starts to take things out of the fridge and the cabinet

Why did she need to start cooking so early?

"Why?" 

"Dont question me Angela, its disrespectful, And the new neighbors are coming over today"
