The painter's brush intricately added one last stroke to the canvas, and the painter looked up at the special person sitting not far away. She held her gayageum across and was focused on re-stringing her instrument. Pausing, she raised her head. Their eyes held each other as she read the painter's thoughts with a knowing smile. The painter silently marveled at the strange turns which always led one to the other. Two souls tightly strung by Fate, like the silken strings of her gayageum, to play the music of love. An old promise from their past drifted into the painter's mind. Once long ago, they nearly lost each other in a maelstrom that swirled around them. During their memorable last night together, the painter had promised the gisaeng these words,
