When we left the Hobbit House, Octavia told me she had to go to her aunt again. I had told her about my latest dream and everything. And she figured it was better to warn Florentine about the whole-Viktor-with-his-corpse-in-the-coffin thing because she was the closest connection to the Underworld. Somehow, we felt that the other vampires had no idea what Viktor was doing with the immortal body. I had a bad feeling about my uncle's betrayal to my father and his wicked role of causing the prophecy to happen was his plan.

I saw Octavia off at the gate as usual, and when she was gone, I called Mom to check how she was doing at the hospital. But the nurse picked up the phone and told me she had left to fix something at home. I dialed home instead, but nobody answered. I tried calling her cell phone again, and she still couldn't be reached.

An uneasy feeling settled in me. I dialed Octavia, but her phone was turned off, probably since the time we were making love. I didn't know, but I had to run back to the mansion. And when I burst into the suite, I found all my friends there.

Jacque was coaching Alyssa on how to generate electricity while Cammie was practicing her swordplay.

"Hey, Viv," Cammie said, "How was your date with Octavia?"

"Can we talk later?... I want to see my mom," I said. "I think she is in trouble,"

"What's wrong?" Alyssa said.

"Mother-daughter feeling," I said. "I want to go home and check on her...like right now."

"Okay, Viv, we'll come with you," Cammie said then she turned to Jacque, "Can you show us the way to the underground parking lot?"

Jacque shrugged, "Piece of pie,"

And a moment later, Jacque led us to one of the secret passages that linked straight to the school convertible garage. Cammie managed to sneak the car out and then we drove away from the campus ground and out of the school. Even Jacque also came along, but I guess she was just bored staying at school alone.

We pulled into the driveway at my house a long while later. I flew out of the car before everyone else. Once I opened the front door, my home was like a tomb. All the lights were out. I called my mom, but there was no one in the house.

"Where is she?" Alyssa's voice came behind me. I shook my head.

We walked farther into the living room. Suddenly I got a strong chill that made my stomach turn into knots. Cammie, Alyssa, and Jacque were right behind me. I wanted to tell them to get back into the car, but it was already too late. The striking smell hit my nose. Three undead vampires stepped out of the dark corners of my house. Their glowing eyes stared at us. The other one was also blocking the front door. Their teeth pulled up in a snarl.

We stood like trapped animals in the hallway.

"Uh-oh," Jacque said. "Looks like you have uninvited guests here."

"Surprised that we could enter your house, huh?" one of them spoke up. His chalk-white face was deadpan. "I really love humans. They always have stupid theories about us."

"Where's my mother?" I asked harshly, looking at the tall one in the middle, but the rest of them seemed to be struggling with the urge to feed on my human friends.

"Come with us, and I'll show where she is," the same undead guy said. Then he started mumbling in Russian, "Derzhat chto devushka zhiva. Ubeyte drugikh."

"What did he say?" Alyssa turned to Cammie who seemed like she couldn't wait for a fight.

"He said, spare the girl, kill the others," Cammie translated and then she looked at the undead square in the eyes before speaking in perfect Russian, something about burning in hell.
