"Lillie! Hurry up it's almost time!" My mom yells up at me from downstairs.
I stood in front of my antique French trifold mirror that didn't quite fit in with the rest of my room, "I'm almost done!" I shout back.
It's finally the day. The day that I have been waiting for, for 12 years. At midnight I turn 13 and will be able to shift for the first time. Then I will finally be like everyone else. I also get a best friend for life but that's besides the point, because My best friend and I are practically twins.
Sure she was born a day after me, but that doesn't matter. We were made to be best friends. She was born several weeks early resulting in both of us being born on this thing called Once in a blue moon. It's an astronomical occurrence that happens when there are two full moons in the same calendar month called blue moons.
It doesn't happen very often but when it does special things happen. We believe they are small gifts from the moon goddess. She blesses us in mysterious ways, and she blessed me by giving me my best friend.
She will be shifting tomorrow and I'll be shifting tonight. That's what I'm getting ready for; to go meet with the pack doctors so they can make sure I shift comfortably. Usually it's a whole ceremony but I opted out to let Delancey have the spot light tomorrow.
I finish my look by throwing my hair up in a ponytail and putting on my old worn converse, than for downstairs to meet my mom and dad in the kitchen.
"It's your big day Kiddo!" My dad greets me with a big smile and wraps on arm around my shoulder squeezing tightly. He's probably more excited then I am. If that is even remotely possible! My dad is the top warrior in our pack and trains all the up coming warriors with potential. We all get some training, but not from my dad.
A lot of people in the pack look up to him and he gets a great amount of respect from everyone.
"I can hardly wait!" I say with a big grin on my face. I see my brother right behind him with Anthony. The two were laughing about something until they saw me and sobered up.
My brothers two years older than me, so he had already shifted and became to cool for anyone. It didn't help that his best friend is the alphas son. They were lock and key.
"Good luck tonight Lillie!" Is all I got from my brother before him and Anthony Scurried off upstairs. Mom followed right behind him yelling about them being out so late. I just shake my head. They always get away with everything.
"Anyway come on sweetheart it's almost midnight," My mom says with a look of discomposure. She is definitely not ready for this night.
"Ok mom," We pile out the house leaving Anthony and Jace behind.
I had requested that only my parents a singular doctor and Delancy were with me. Small and intimate the way I like it.
We walk through our small town and the clinic. The layout of the town is pretty simple since we are pretty isolated and surrounded by woods. Our pack is one of the top five biggest packs in the states, so we were able to set up a community with no humans.
Mom, dad and I all walk into the clinic where Delancey already waits for me. She immediately stands up out of the chair she was sitting in and throws herself into my arms.
"I'm so excited for you!"
I hug her back squeezing tight, "I can't wait for you to be able to join me tomorrow also!"
She lets go and squeals, "we're practically all grown up."
My parents behind us kind of scoff, "not yet girls. Your almost there though." My mom comes up behind me and starts messing with me hair.
