"Is it ok if a friend comes over for supper?"
"Sure.Is it one of the boys from the team?"
"No." I answered cautiously. I knew what my mom would automatically think once she found out it was a girl even though I would tell her we were only friends. Which we were.
She looked up from what she was doing with a curious look in her eyes. "I only ask because I know how much those boys eat and I would need to make extra if it was one of them."
"Oh,well no it's not one of them." I said and started to walk away.
"Nicholas Kane what are you trying to hide?" She said with a hint of a smile behind her words.
"Nothing I'm not hiding anything."
"Yes you are. Your not telling me something."
"Uh fine mom my friend is a girl. But that's all she is. She's just a friend but I know you. You'll make a big deal out of it.Mom just please don't embarrass me, ok."
She started to laugh.
"Seriously mom?"
"Okay,okay."she said still holding back laughter.
"I'm going to go call her and make sure she cleared it with her foster mom."
