Calvin's POV

She had been relatively calm in the car and I saw the way she forced her emotions down while she talked about what happened to her in the past. She definitely was suffocating her feelings and nothing good was going to come from that.

I knew she would crack under the pressure quickly but I was trying to avoid her feeling completely destroyed. I'm not sure I would have chosen her had I know her history but nothing pointed to her having been abused in her file. Maybe she was stronger than I suspected. The way she kept staring at the door between our room made me doubt it though.

"May I call you Jenna?" I asked, trying to draw her attention to a different topic.

"You own me" Her eyes didn't leave the door, "You can call me whatever you want."

"Has anyone ever called you Jenna before?"

"A friend. Once upon a time."

Sadness took over her time. "Once upon a time?"

I was afraid of the answer she would give me but I needed to know everything upfront if I was going to deal with it.

"She was killed." I nodded in understanding as Jenna turned around to face me, finally looking away from my room. "A werewolf though. It wasn't a vampire."

"Do you want to talk about it?" Werewolves aren't cuddly creatures like humans had hoped they would be. Most of them had a dark streak in them and often were intentionally cruel to humans.

"No." She replied and I let the subject drop. She would have to open up to me over time so there was no need for me to try and push her now. I wanted her to put a little bit of trust in me and if I was pressuring her to tell me stories of her past, it could easily mess that up.

I reached out to brush my fingers through the soft dark brown locks of her hair. It was mostly straight but curled slightly at the bottom. It came about halfway down her back and was extremely thick. It was one of the first things that had caught my eye in her picture. It looked healthy.

She flinched away from my touch and a frown appeared on my face. She corrected herself and hesitantly moved back into place where I could easily run my fingers through it again. This was going to be harder than I expected.

Humans weren't exactly friendly to vampires and were often afraid of us in passing but she was going to have to get used to me touching her and being around because I did plan for her to be my companion in multiple ways.

"I hope you won't always be so afraid of me." I tried to sound positive but this wasn't the first time I had purchased a human companion. The last one killed herself and it was a mess to deal with afterward.

"You're a monster."

There were tears in her eyes as she gave me a once over and then diverted her gaze across the room. She held a lot of pain inside of her from the past and I was trying to let it go. But this was now the second time she had mentioned not being happy with my existence and I was particularly appalled by the term "monster".

"You should shower," I motioned to her bathroom with my hand, "Get cleaned up and there are fresh clothes for you in the drawers and closet. You can go to sleep afterward and I will come wake up in the morning." I went to the connecting door and was about to cross through it when I felt her eyes on my back. I turned around slowly, giving her the chance to look away.

"If the doors don't lock, you can walk in on me whenever you want, right?" She seemed unsure of herself now. Not quite as strong as before.

"I can," She nodded, "but I won't. Until you're more comfortable with my presence I will try and make it as easy on you as I can."
