Chapter 18

Cole's pov:

After I had punched the wall, my Aunt tried to doctor it up, but I jerked my hand away and cleaned it myself. "So tell me everything, and I mean everything." She says as I glare at her, but gave her a defeated sigh and started my story. "What's there to know? I killed my parents in a house fire, got placed in foster care since you didn't want to adopt us. Finally, we got adopted by this so called, 'lovely couple', ha! Lovely couple, my ass. Anyway, they adopted us, we got abused for a while, then it was just me, got kicked out, and now we are living with my girlfriend." Her eyes widened and I raised my eyebrows in confusion, "What?" I asked as she started to shake a little. "What kind of a-abuse did they...what did they do to you?" She asked as I shrugged and said, "Just the usual, kicks and punches here and there. Several times he cut me with a knife, they cussed us out, I got slapped here and there, you know? Nothing out of the ordinary." She looked at me in horror. "Nothing out of the ordinary?! Are you freaking crazy?! They should be arrested! Why didn't you do anything? You just sat there and let them do that?!" She shouted and I glared at her. "What was I supposed to do? Where would we have went? We couldn't go back to foster care and I wasn't fixing to let them bastards hit my siblings, besides I deserve it for what I did to my parents." I said, but whispered the last part. Her eyes softened but I didn't care. "I don't need pity. I'm doing just fine and have been for the last four years. So, don't worry about it. We have a roof over our heads, food on the table, clothes on our back, and the bills get paid, so it's fine. Just go on about your life and enjoy it. You don't need five homeless kids affecting your life or job." I said as the door opened and Autumn came in. "Hey, beautiful." I say as she smiled at me and gave me a kiss. Then she slapped me on the arm. "Ow! What was that for?" I asked as I rubbed my shoulder even though it really didn't hurt. "Lucas Cole Adams! I can't believe you! I have heard that you have been in....what? Three fights today and landed yourself in detention. You know better!" Autumn scolds me as I sigh and say, "It wasn't my fault! If those guys hadn't been douchebags to Scarlet then none of this would have happened." I say simply as she rolls her eyes playfully. "Well, you better hurry and finish up. The kids will be waiting for you, then we have to go to work, and you have to explain to our boss why you have missed so many days." She says and then I groan. "But he hates me and I hate him! Autumn, there is no telling what kind of a deal I will have to make with him this time." I say as she frowns. "What's the matter?" I asked as she looked at me. "I hate those deals." She muttered as I pulled her into my chest. "I know, but it's fine because I get to keep my job, the bills get paid, we get food, and so on. I really need to keep this job." I tell her and she sighs. "I know but he makes you strip down in your underwear and with your back like it is, I know you don't like telling people or having people know about it." She says as I nod. "I know, but hey, it's not the first time, and besides, you know you enjoy seeing my abs." I say smirking and she gasps, while hitting my arm, causing me to laugh at her. "I'm just joking." I say as she crosses her arms. "Where do you work at?" My Aunt asks and Autumn says, "Fox's Pizza." She nods and tells me I can go since the hour was up.

After we got home and I had helped the kids with their homework and fixed dinner for them and by the time 6:30 came around, it was time to leave for work. "Autumn are you ready yet?" I called from the living room as she yelled back saying yeah. "Scarlet! We are leaving, leftovers are in the fridge, call me if you need me! Love you!" I shouted upstairs to my sister as Autumn came out of the bedroom. "Love you Cole!" The little kids said as they rushed down the stairs to give me hugs before I left. "Be good guys, love you!" I said after hugging them and going out the door. "Who's driving?" Autumn asked and I shrugged my shoulders as she tossed me the keys. "You sure?" I asked as she climbed in the passenger seat. "Of course I'm sure." She says smiling as I got in the driver's seat and drove to work. Once we got there, we walked in the door and I was greeted by Alec who gave me a hug and wouldn't let go. I laughed as we wrestled a little bit before I went to the register. The door opened and a woman came in wearing a baseball cap. She sat down in one of the booths and Alec went over and offered her a drink, just as our manager came out and saw me standing at the register. I swallowed a little as an evil grin appeared on his face and he motioned me to follow him.
