Chapter Twenty
20: Colour-coded organised chaos
"Hello, Hayley," Sebastian's voice floated pleasantly over the phone. "Care to accompany me on Saturday?"
"To the library?" I asked, confused. "You didn't need to call."
"Not the library, Sanders," he says arrogantly. "Out. On a date, I mean."
At this point, I almost dropped the phone. Almost. I could feel my heart beat faster and the blood rush to my cheeks. Was he really? Keep your cool, Sanders. Steadily, I put my game face on. Okay, okay.
"Where would you take me?"
"That depends. Are you interested?" He sounded smug, but there was also something akin to relief.
"Maybe."
"In me, or in the date?" He teased.
"Oh, Sebastian, you know how taken I am by you," I played along, laughing. Okay. This is fine. Normal. I'm normal.
"I do," his laughter filled the receiver. "Don't dress fancy, wear something that you can move around in easily. I'll meet you at the train station at eight."
"In the evening?" I asked.
"Morning, Hayley," he said smoothly. "No questions. See ya."
And with that, the line went dead. A small smirk crept its way onto my lips. This was playing into my hands just the way I wanted.
But I couldn't help but burst out into this weird... dance thing. That I never knew I had. Oh my god, I'm so embarrassing.
Someone save me from myself, please.
So I called reinforcements. "Quinn, Frankie, what does it mean when a boy asks you out?"
"Are you referring to one Sebastian Williams?" Quinn asked curiously.
"I am." I affirmed.
"You complete the dare," Frankie replied, without missing a beat. "Or at least we'll know by, when's the date again?"
"This Saturday?"
"We'll know if you've completed the dare by this Saturday evening." Frankie's upbeat reply came.
"With all the details," Quinn added.
My friends. My dear, nosy, conniving friends.
"Also, Hayley, Saturday is in two days, so I'm coming over tonight to help you pick an outfit," Frankie ventured.
"How do you know I'm free? And I can dress myself, thank you very much." I growled, slightly offended. Excuse me?
"Hayley, we've been over this," Quinn said patiently. "We all have a copy of each other's planners. And knowing Frankie, she probably would've shown up tomorrow if you couldn't. Or the next day. Or the next day."
"That's true, she's like a persistent bug."
"Hey!" Said girl protested. "Ugh, why am I helping you again?"
"I didn't ask for your help."
"Ah, that's why. See you after dinner, Hayley bean!"
With that, Frankie ended the call. I could hear Quinn sigh from over the phone.
