It Started With A Lie

Nakita ko sa peripheral vision ko na umupo sa front side namin si Raven. She cleared her throat, probably to get our attention...

"So, you're Shannon?" Tumingin sya sa akin ng matiim and I believe I was lost again for like ten seconds. Kung hindi pa ko siniko ni Macy, hindi pa ko matitinag..

"Ahh, err- y--yeah..The one and only." Heck, why am I stuttering? Sya dapat nai intimidate sa presence ko and not the other way around!

She nodded, "I've read your resume the other day. You're last name is Alvington, are you some how related to the business tycoon Dave Alvington?"

"No!" I answered or rather lied too quickly.

Again, she just nod. Her facial expression is blunt. I swear I'll pay a million dollar just to read what's going on with that pretty head of hers..

"I see."

"Ahm, baka ka surname lang sila ate Ravs, we don't even know the guy you were talking about". Follow up naman ni Macy..

She smiled, "alright, so Shannon. Base on your information, you are under graduate in UST? Am I correct?"

"Ahm yeah"..I also smiled. Pero yung ngiting awkward. Sheesh, I'm not really a pro when it comes to lying.

"How come? I mean why you didn't pursue your studies?" Gosh ganito ba talaga tanong sa interview?

"Financial problem. My mom is just a plain house wife while my dad is a simple clerk abroad. I have two more siblings so I had to give way for them to be able to study".. I said with out blinking.

"How kind of you". She smiled at me, or was it smirked? Why do I have this feeling that she's hiding something? Was it just me because I'm the one lying?

But I don't think she knew who I really was. That's just imposible because we haven't met yet and I'm sure wala ding alam si ate Macky about my plan. Maybe I'm just paranoid. I'm over thinking. Wala tuloy sa sariling nainom ko yung tinimpla nyang lemonade. Bottoms up. In fairness masarap sya.

"Shan, di ka naman halatang uhaw nyan noh?" Naka ngising tanong ni Macy, isa pa tong babaeng to eh. Alam na ngang tense na ako nagsi sinungaling na nga lang hindi pa galingan. Parang halatang scripted yung pagkaka segunda nya kanina eh..

"Ladies, Shannon, you in particular, I'd be honest with you. I think you are over qualified as my secretary or PA for that matter. With your looks, you can easily find a job that will suit you.."

What?! Does it she's rejecting me? It can't be! Kailangang maisakatuparan ko ang plano ko!

I secretly elbowed Macy for some rescue, nagtinginan kami at agad naman nyang na gets ang nais kong ipabatid.

"Ahm, ate Ravs, baka pwede mo naman subukan muna si Shannon, kahit pa over qualified kamo sya. Sa panahon kasi ngayon kahit anong ganda basta under graduate ka mahihirapan ka pa din makahanap ng work. Kaya tingnan mo yung karamihang magaganda, sa kabaret na pupunta. Kaya sige na please, try mo lang. Maaatim mo bang magpa giling giling sa pipitsuging club ang kaibigan kong ito?"

Ang sama ng tingin ko kay Macy after kong marinig yung pinag sasabi nya. Ok na sana yung paawa look nya pero kailangan talagang pagigilingin ako sa club? Abnormal talaga. Ini-imagine ko pa lang na sumasayaw ako sa isang cheap na bar ng naka bikini lang ay kinikilabutan na ako. What more pa kaya kung totoo?

Natigil lang ako sa death glare sa talipandas kong bestfriend ng marinig kong tumawa si Raven, ang cute nyang tumawa. Hindi naman sya singkit pero nawawala yung mata nya habang tumatawa. Her laughter somewhat lighten my mood. Parang, paano ko ba ilalarawan, music to my ears?

Huh? Wait a minute, where the heck did that come from?

"Your still as crazy as before Macy..parang wala naman sa character ni Shannon ang ganun." Natatawa pa ring sabi nito..

"If it's for my family and dancing in front of maniacs dude is the only way, why not?" Segunda ko na lang..

I saw her raised one eye brow, pero saglit lang. Naningkit ang mga nya tumingin sa akin. Ayon na naman yung titig nya. Feeling ko binabasa nya pati kaloob looban ng kaluluwa ko...

"Hmm, what if I tell you that I'm not really looking for a secretary?" Nanghahamong turan nya..

This time nakipagsabayan na din ako ng titig sa kanya, "what then?"

"A house maid". She answered flatly..

"A what?!" Sabay pa naming bigkas ni Macy..
