Expect The Unexpected

Every Rose Has Its Thorns

   Riley ran straight home as soon as the bell signaled the end of the day. She knew Maya would be mad. If she would've never went and met up with Charlie this would've never happened. She would never have to risk losing-
"Hey, Pumpkin."
   -Maya. This is it. She never would have thought this day would come. Will Maya let her down easy? Maybe she'll just cut to the chase and then be on her way, leaving Riley to deal with her emotions herself.
"I'm so sorry Maya. This is all my fault. I should've never met up with him. I should've known he would do something like this. I just want you to know I totally understand if you want to break up with m-"
"What? Break up with you? Why would I do that? And who is he? What did he do?"
"Wait, you don't know?" Riley questioned, bewildered.
"Don't know wha-"
   Just then Maya's phone vibrated in her pocket. This made Riley slump down where she sat, wait for the inevitable. After giving Riley a confused look, Maya unlocked the screen of her phone to see the message that had just came through. It was a picture. A picture of Charlie Gardner kissing her girlfriend.
"Oh, that." Maya said quietly.
"I'm so sorry, Maya. I shouldn't have even been hanging out with him in the first place. I should've been here with you." Riley reasoned. During her attempt to explain herself Riley hadn't even begun to notice the river of tears that began to run down her face. That is till Maya reached up a hand to wipe them away.
"I'm not going to break up with you, darling." Maya replied calmly, rubbing her thumb along Riley's cheek bone.
"What? Why not? I kissed another person. I kissed a guy!" Riley exclaimed.
"I know you didn't mean it. Have you forgotten all the times I've seen Charlie try to hit on you? Last time I checked he's everything but subtle."
This made Riley laugh.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." Riley said, "So you're not mad?"
"I could never be mad at you," Maya replied, "and I'm definitely not going to break up with you, understand?"
"Yeah, I understand." Riley said, smiling.
"Ring power?" Maya said, reaching out her hand.
"Ring power." Riley replied interlocking their fingers.
