Chapter 12 [edited]

Cookies. Who doesn't love them? Especially homemade, warm, chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth. I love Maria's cooking.

I looked towards Cole, his blue eyes were looking towards the road and it seemed as if he was in deep thought. For a minute there I pondered on whether to ask him what he was thinking about? But then I realised that there's no point! Cole never shares anything. Heck, I don't even know why he's the most wanted criminal by the FBI!

"Where are we going?" I asked, breaking the silence.

There was a silence before Cole spoke, "We're going to leave California tonight. Hopefully we'll be in Nevada by dawn."

"Well that's a long drive." I sighed "I think I'm going to sleep."

Cole scoffed and I frowned, "No you're not. You're going to be on look out for the police."

"And what makes you think I'm going to tell you if there are cops close by? I mean I wanna go home and if getting the cops on you is the only way to do so then so be it."

I watched as Cole's knuckles whitened as he gripped the steering wheel, "You will do so because I'm fucking telling you to and if you don't then I can just shoot you."

Truth be told I was scared by his threats but I couldn't show him that so I crossed my arms and glared at him, "If you do that then who would be your hostage?"

"I can pick another hostage up. Hopefully someone less irritating than you."

I fake gasped and mocked hurt, "after all we've been through for the past-" I thought about how long it had been "3 days." 3 days? It feels like foreverIt feels like I've been with Cole for months. We stopped at a red light. I looked around at the palm trees that stood up high giving people shade from the blazing sun as they walked past. I looked around at the shops admiring the clothes on the mannequin and I looked around at the cars besides us that had stopped at the red light as well. I must admit people in California had fancy cars. Then the green light came on.

                                                                                              * * *

I sighed and rested my back on the seat, to say that I was bored was an understatement. We were on the highway now we had been driving for an hour and neither of us had made an attempt to have a conversation. I guess it's because I kept annoying Cole with the typical question 'are we there yet?'

"Cole can I ask you something?" I turned around to ask me.

"If it's about whether we're there yet then-" Cole started but then I interrupted him before he could go into his rant.

"No, it's not that."

"Oh well then go on then. But technically you've already asked me a question." I rolled my eyes at him as he smirked slightly.

"What happened that made the FBI come look for you?" I was petrified to ask him that question but I knew it had to be let out sooner or later. I mean I'm travelling with the guy for a while might as well get some background information on him! I watched as he tensed slightly and that caught my attention as I studied his body language. He looked tensed and his jaw was clenched now which would suggest that he was angry or getting angry.

"That's none of your business." His tone was cold and made me flinch slightly.

"Why can't you just tell me?
