Alone Away from Home

Chapter 2

I parked my car into the driveway of supposedly my uncle's house; it was dull and looked like a ranch out of a western television programme, with several cows here and there, and a beautiful, white, clean horse.

I walked up to the door to find a note:

"Lauren,
Check your phone, I send you a text where the key is hiding."

I had forgotten to turn my phone on, but when I did, there were no new calls, just one text message from my Uncle on where I can find the house key.

After finding it, I walked in the house with directions on the fridge on what to do while at the ranch.

The sun started to set, it was a beautiful dusk, the wind blew the tumbleweeds to their places, the sky was a vivid orange, and a mesa far away shown all its glory, the cattle spread among the fields made the sight more western stereotypical.

I heard a commotion in the horse shed, I ran out the back door to the shed to see the horses spooked, it was still bright enough to see everything, but nothing was there and I returned to the house peacefully.

I wasn't thinking about what might have happened in the horse shed, as long as everyone was alright, but when I came inside, I sat on the leather sofa to find the remote buried in the couch, just like home!

I turned on the TV to watch Rainbowser news that was centered in Osli.

"We have some breaking news out in Sistris of a serial killer who escaped from a federal prison, the area of 50 square miles is on lockdown, the police are searching this 50 square mile perimeter, blocks have been put up to block traffic from entering, we're asking everyone to---"

*Power turns off*

"What the...?" I thought to myself

I went out to check on the power grid... It had been destroyed completely, looks like I wasn't going to get any power for a while.

Just as I was looking at the power grid, I heard animals screaming, I ran inside to get a flashlight since it was dark, and I returned to the scene of the crime, it was in the cow shed, where there was a cow that was mutilated: by a person.

I stood in fright wondering what had happened: for whoever it may be, is still in the cowshed.

I ran back as if my life depended on it, pulling up some boards here and there, and ran inside, I searched and found the hammer and nails, and boarded up all of the windows on the first floor, but as I was boarding up the backdoor window, I saw a person in the dark starting to run toward me, I quickly boarded up that part of the window I was looking out of, and I swiftly locked the back door and double checked all the doors to see if I had locked them.

I got out my phone, I was so relieved that I bought an addon that would recharge it through wind and magnetic charges, so if I shook it or waved it around, it would slowly charge: and the battery was on 100% too, then I texted Allie Akers, a good friend of mine.

Lauren: OMG SOMETHING CREEPY IS HAPPENING
Allie: What's wrong? O.o
Lauren: There is somebody outside, I went in the cowshed and found a mutilated cow ;_;
Allie: Holy floop call the police!
Lauren: Hmm, I haven't thought about that for some reason
Allie: I've been hearing on the news about an escaped serial killer in your area, and I saw your post the other day about going to Sistris, I suppose you're already there?
Lauren: I am, I wonder if the thing that is out there is that killer?
Lauren: I'm gonna go call the police

I dialed the police...

"Sistris Police Department, how may I help you?" A lady answered

"There is someone on the property that killed a cow, and is trying to get in the house!" I said
