Wolves generally radiate heat, and while I'm a half-breed, I don't generate as much as the full-breeds. But I'm just hot today. Whatever is wrong with me, I'm so distracted by it, that I left my camera at home. There's no club meeting today, but I've already missed a handful of photo ops.

Without my camera, I'm in a foul mood. In yearbook I wasn't as chatty with Ben as I would normally be. He even offered to let me borrow his camera for the rest of the day, but I wanted mine. And now at lunch, I won't even touch my food.

"Anna, we have calories burning. They burn quicker than a human, eat something." She pushes my chicken sandwich in front of me, but I just wasn't feeling it. I turn my nose from it. "You're acting like a real bitch now."

The word insults me more than it would a human. Calling another wolf a bitch isn't nice. Its basically saying that you're letting your wolf have too much control while in human form.

"Its just a camera," she says.

"That's not even it." I frown. "I'm just not in the mood for anything."

"Mmhmm..."

I roll my eyes at her and look at Tristan over her shoulder. He sits with his other East Wolves and there's something different about them. There's something different about this room actually.

I look at Sara and that's when it clicks. It smells like wolf. I don't know if the human students can smell it, but us females look at one another with confusion. It seems to be only the males that are on the verge.

"This isn't going to end well." She leans into the table. "We need a distraction."

"You don't really think they're going to shift do you?"

"I really do." She looks down the table where an acquaintance, Garett, sits. He shakes his head and a flash of his teeth show.

"Shit," I say, grabbing my chicken sandwich and launching it at the kid behind Sara.

Sara gasps and looks behind at the kid I hit. The food I threw was solid so his clothes didn't get ruined, but he, still furious, grabs his orange juice and throws it at me. I duck and feel the liquid splash on me from the impact behind.

I don't even have to say that a full on food fight starts after that. It gives all the wolves something to focus on and it helps, it really does, but only for a few minutes.

The thing about Stone Creek High is that not only are some of the student's wolves, but some of the staff is too. So when the lights go out I know it's one of the administrators.

People scream and wolves growl, causing more chaos. Someone bumps into me, nearly knocking me to the ground and someone else grabs my wrist. It takes me a second to recognize Sara's smell and follow her out. I would've gotten trampled if it weren't for Sara leading me.

We run to the doors with streaming lights from the sun outside. We burst through with many other students. Sara is pulled to the side, successfully pulling me with her. Maybe it's a good idea I left my camera today.

The principle looks right at me. "You need to go home."

"Why? I still have three more classes." I look at Sara and she seems to make the connection before I do.

"Anna, you're..." She trails off, looking at the principle. He nods and walks off. Sara leans to my ear. "You're in heat."

My eyes widen and my cheeks turn red. This is not happening. "But I'm a half-breed. I don't go in heat. We go in heat when we're twelve, I'm eighteen."

"I don't care. The fact is, you're in heat without the protection of the pack. You need suppressants."

"As if being with the pack is any better right now. The males will go crazy."
