At the brink of dawn,

I awoke.

I checked and

 Frank was still asleep.

(asleep beside me)

So I put on my clothes,

and drank my coffee.

I had errands to run.

I had to get art supplies.

Outside, it was crisp.

The fall weather really was kicking in.

I could see my own breath

as I put on Frank's jacket

since a simple hoodie wasn't warm enough.

I missed it.

It smelled like him.

I almost forgot it.

When I marked my arrival at the art store,

I explored the wonders of each and every corner there.

I know this store was family owned,

so naturally,

I was prone to coming here.

Family owned places just have a more sentimental taste to it,

than some random, well known enterprise.

They showcase all sorts of paintings

here.

One stroke,

Abstract,

Realism.

Professional and student.

I could admire them for hours on end.

I saw paintings of flowers,

landscapes,

and a lady

With black hair, and pure, apple red lipstick.

I jumped because there was a girl next to me.

She had to be four years old.

She had brown hair, and it lied on the floor.

Was she even there before?!?

I didn't notce her!

She was drawing on a paper.

Ah,

it was great to see

the next generation of artists

thriving.

I knew by mere intuition that she had to be the owner's daughter.

I greeted her with a "Hi".

She glancd up at me,

She didn't even care,

"Hi."

I looked down at her,

"What's your name?"

Without looking at me, she replied,

"Jay."

There was quietness

for a second.

"What are you drawing?" I inquired all of a sudden.

"A fish," and she showed me.

I knelt next to her.

It was amazing.

She even knew how to blend in color.

"You're a wonderul artist." I smile.

But she was staring at something.

"What are you looking at?" I ask.

She points to one of the canvasses,

"I drew that."

It was a rose and a cat.

It was better than the fish

in my opinion.

"You need to keep drawing," I told her,

"I see a bright future for you in it."

She smiled.

"Now," I huffed,

Looked around,

"do you know where the paint is?"

She nodded.
