James Potter had a cat he brought to Hogwarts that was a devil to most except the Marauders and Lily. It stayed with them throughout the years and became a big part of the Marauders; so naturally when James married Lily and they bought a house, they brought the cat with them. After Harry was born the flat faced, bushy tailed cat starting disliking and hating a certain rat friend of theirs- Peter. When the house exploded and Lily and James died, the cat ran away and eventually made its way to Diagon Ally. Accepted by the pet store there, it lay in wait for the little child of its family and the rat who had become so untrustworthy. Twelve years later, in came three people. A redhead, a messy black haired boy and a bushy haired intelligent girl. With the redhead was the rat that destroyed its family's life. So the cat becomes close with the girl and the black haired boy, who it recognizes from ages ago and later when he finally returns to Hogwarts, he becomes friends with the black dog he remembers as a laughing man who used to give him treats and secret pats. This cat helps the man capture the rat. This cat is Crookshanks.
