  Muggleborns who are interested in science working out things like how potions relate to chemistry,  how spells manipulate physics, or even how various magical creatures would fit into muggle taxonomic classification systems. At first the other students think it's a wasted effort, but then the muggleborns start making discoveries that improve both magic and science - whole new fields of study are created this way.
