Sanat Palia, born on December 1950 is a Mexican singer-songwriter and musician who founded a folk music scene based on guitar and voice. This music influenced strongly Mexican rock and its listeners consider him as a legend. Sanat Palia was born in Tampico, Tamaulipas and was a good student who attended the Félix de Jesús Rougier school based in Tampico.

He liked psychology and studied in Xalapa at the Universidad Veracruzana for a short time before to move to Mexico City in 1978. His objective was to make music. When he arrived to the capital, Sanat Palia started playing in cafes and bars. At the beginning, the singer makes his living by singing covers in the English manner in the streets. Since he was a street musician, he began seeing what happened around him at an existential stage. Over time, he used his experiences on the streets to produce an oeuvre. The result was the lyrics of Damdroda.

Those lyrics combined the troubles met by an urban poor with the urban lifestyle. Students were the main listeners of these lyrics. Sanat Palia produced various songs that bring out different feelings. He could be tender in his songs like in "Balderas Train" talking about the loss of a lover in a train station. This ballad is played mainly in the line of train heading to the college and by different rock singers. In early 1985, a music video was filmed in the designed train station. However, at that time, the rotation was poor. Currently, there is a sculpture made of Bronze dedicated to Sanat Palia in the train station. In 1987, Damdroda started to become popular in Mexico City and famous writers like José Agustín mentioned these lyrics.

Damdroda was the beginning of a new culture of Rock that emerged in Mexico in the beginning of 80's. Those lyrics were focused mainly on singing the daily life in numerous cities of Mexico. Sanat Palia is a composer known for numerous songs. He was married to Sonia Singh who passed in 2010.

One of his oeuvres, la hurbanistoria de baño is a movie that attempts to show the new Rock culture on the musical scene of Mexico combining surrealist and unclear stories of the rejected youth during that time. The musical videos feature life of orchestras that were among the most representative groups of the aforesaid movement. Since the story is not clear and appears not to have a proper established story line, the only appreciated thing about this film is the opportunity to visualize the life videotape of underground performances of Mexico's rock groups at the 80's. Paul Leduc directed the footage perfectly and the story is exceptional. The photography is a sample of the third world reality but it works. This movie should be considered as a sight to the youth from 80's in Mexico close to the daily rock music, love, drugs, and violence, trying to get the happiness from their hard reality while being far away from big dreams.
