Chapter 38- Debate and Performing

"We're friends of the girls." Prince smiled. "I'm Jacob."

"I'm Craig." Prod shook their hands.

"I'm Chresanto, but please call me Chres or Santo." Ric smiled.

"And I'm Rayan." Ray smiled.

"You, young men, are the four boys my students talk about. Mindless Behavior." Mrs. Razem said.

"Yes, we are, but today we are just four boys here to support our friends." Roc smiled.

"Of course." Mrs. Razem smiled.

"Okay. Let's go over our notes." I said. Isis, Juno, Alexa, Vickie, and I started going over our notes.

"I have never made minimum wage, so I'm no use for that one." Ray joked as he looked over our shoulders at the notes. We laughed quickly before continuing to look at our notes.

"Standardize test lack creativity." Prince said.

"We know." The girls and I said together.

Dr. McBride, the leader of the middle school debate tournament, came up to us.

"Wow. Behrman has a lot of debaters this time. You boys look a little old for middle school, don't you?" Dr. McBride smiled.

"Yes, sir. We are just here to support our friends." Roc smiled.

"That's great. How many teams today?" Dr. McBride asked.

"Two. One full team and one two person team." Juno answered.

"Would you like for me to find another member for you?"

"No, sir. We're fine with our teams." Vickie said.

"Okay. Well, I appreciate all of you coming. I know this week is your spring break and I'm happy to have you. Here," he reached into his pocket and pulled out five pens. "These pens are usually used for judges, but for being here early and coming on your spring break, you get these special pens."

We smiled and thanked him as we took the pens. We goofed off as the college science class filled up. I went to get a Coke from a vending machine when I saw the twin boys from Langston Hughes Charter School.

"Hey Kendell and Kentrell." I smiled and waved as I got my Coke.

"Hey...Artemis." They guessed.

"Yeah. I'm Artemis." I smiled as we walked back together.

"You ready to debate today?" Kendell asked.

"Of course. We're gonna crush you guys." I joked as we walked into the classroom.

"You wish. We'll make you cry for your mamas." Kentrell scoffed.

"Y'all wish. In ya dreams, lil niggas." I rolled my eyes.

"So, Artemis, are you single?" They asked at the same time.

"No. I have a boyfriend," I said and pointed at the boys and girls. "The one way at the top with the afro and shades."

"Oh. He looks like that guy from that group." Kendell said.

"Yeah. That have that song. My girl, my girl. She loves me." Kentrell sang. I laughed. He was horrible.

"Cuz that is him. And the boys around him. I gotta go. I can't wait to beat you!" I smiled and walked away.

"You wish!" They said.

"But we will!" Juno shouted with me. I smiled at her.

They laughed as I sat down.

"Who's that?" Roc asked as Issi waved at them.
