Matthew's Pov
Why can't I tell anyone? Why am I so dumb? Why can't I just get over this? Why did this happen to me? Why didn't he help me? Why can't I be fixed?

Why does he call himself a hero?

Alfred's Pov
Why did Mattie stop talking? Why am I so dumb? How did I let this happen? Why did I let him break? Why didn't I help him? Why can't I fix him?

Why do I call myself a hero?

Matthew's Pov

Monday came, and I arrived at French just in time, so Gilbert didn't have time to try to talk to me...

... But, since I want to go to the camping trip, I had to go to the meeting. Before I went in, I got pulled aside by Gilbert.

"Hey, Mattie? Why won't you talk to me? What happened to that cute smile of yours?"

I looked away.

"Mattie, look at me! What is wrong!? I need to help you!"

I started towards the door to the meeting room.

"Mattie, wait!"

Gilbert grabbed my hand. I felt my heart flutter a little bit. Why do I keep running away?

"Mattie. You don't have to tell me, but at least stop avoiding me! Please."

I started to cry. He pulled me in for a hug. We stayed like that for a while. Just crying and hugging. Soon he broke the hug.

"Come on, let's go inside."

I nodded and followed him in.

I sat next to him. No one really called on me at all, so I just rested my head on his shoulder.

I'm glad to have my friend back. He actually did care a bit, I guess. When the meeting finished, he asked me, "Are you going on the camping trip?"

I nodded.

"Do you want me to come?"

I nodded quickly.

He got a form. He filled it out, adding a not on the bottom- "Tent mate request- Matthew Williams."

Wait... He didn't have to ask for my name. He knew who I was!

I smiled. A small one, but a real one.

I found my form, and wrote on the bottom- "Tent mate request- Gilbert"

Oh wait... I don't know his last name. I looked up at him worried.

"That's alright Mattie! I don't think I ever told you! It's Bielschmidt."

I looked at him, confused.

"Here" he wrote it down for me.

The meeting ended early, so Gilbert offered to drive me. Apparently, in school, he got held back...

I accepted though.

I got in the passengers seat of the car and wrote down my address. I live fairly close to the school, so we were mostly silent during the ride.

When we arrived at my house, he told me that he would be waiting for me at school the next day. I nodded and went inside. I was greeted by Daddy. "Who's that? Is he in your club?"

I nodded.

"I didn't get a good look at him, but he seems familiar, like an old friend of mine... Do you think I've seen him around you before?"

I shrugged.

"Alright. I guess you have homework to do."
