Yes, I know it's been awhile since I updated. Sorry folks, school punched me in the face.
Insomnia has been a lifelong friend. That's not an exaggaration. Growing up in a town filled with drug cartels wasn't exactly trauma free. I saw my first dead body when I was eleven. My brother shielded it from view as soon as he saw it too, but the image was imprinted in my mind. It's then that I decided that I wanted to fight for the greater good, like Alejandro and Los Vaqueros.
Surprisingly, my first kill was before the army. I was fifteen and saw a soldier harrasing a woman in an alleyway. Alejandro had already been in the army by then and he'd taught me some self defense moves, which I used to take the man down. I'd just grabbed the gun that was strapped at his hip, when he grabbed my wrist. My first instinct was to shoot and he died on the spot.
It's memories like those that keep me up at night. I have different ways to spend my time: reading, drawing, etc, though my favourite will always be running until my legs give out.
That's what I'm doing now. It's raining slightly, but I don't mind. I just focus on my breathing and every step I take. I don't know how long I've been running for, but then I see a familiar figure at the edge of the on-base track.
I smile and gradually slow down until I stop right infront of Simon.
He cups my cheek and wipes a drop from my face. Whether it's sweat or rain, I don't know.
"You weren't in bed", he mutters.
"Needed to clear my mind. Again", I respond.
He tilts his head sideways. "What was it this time?"
"Valeria, mostly. And that time I got taken by the cartel as a rookie", I say, my voice quiet.
He slides his hand down to the scar that goes from ear to ear over my throat. A reminder of that rookie mistake. I'd been lucky Alejandro got to me in time.
"Valeria will pay some day", Simon says. I know he mentions that, because he can't help with the other.
I sigh softly. "Maybe. She has too much power now, as El Sin Nombre."
Simon is quiet. His thumb brushes over the scar. "I hate seeing you upset."
"I'm not, I just needed a breather. I'm fine."
He hums. "Sure."
"I am!"
He pulls up his balaclava and gently kisses me. I kiss him back, but then we get interrupted by none other than our favourite Scot.
"Hi, lovebords!" he shouts as he walks over.
Simon sighs and rests his forehead against mine. "What, MacTavish?"
"Your future brother in law arrived", Soap responds, grinning.
"He isn't-"
"Oh, c'mon, the whole base knows you proposed to her and she said yes!"
I smile and glance at the titanium ring on my hand. He did exactly that three days ago.
