(8) Only in a Lifetime

‘Jesse isn’t no one,’ I commented whilst putting another spoonful of ice-cream into my mouth. ‘Why can’t my life just be simple? Why don’t you just marry me Geoffrey?’

‘Sorry Charles, I have my eye on someone else,’ Geoffrey admitted. I about spat my ice-cream out as I choked to swallow it.

‘Who is it?’ I asked as I tried to recover from the brain-freeze which was beginning to hurt my head.

‘I’m not telling you, you’ll tell her straight away,’ Geoffrey protested as he turned over through the music stations on the TV.

‘What do you think I am? I won’t tell anyone anything,’ I argued as I put the lid back on my ice-cream before hurrying off to put it back into the freezer. I quickly dashed back to the lounge before throwing myself onto the sofa beside Geoffrey. ‘Tell me,’ I insisted as I budged closer to him.

‘Not happening Charles,’ Geoffrey stood his ground.

‘Please, Geoffrey,’ I pleaded. Geoffrey shook his head. ‘Please...Please...PLEASE!’ I screamed as I jumped onto Geoffrey’s legs before bouncing.

‘I said no now get off me before I push you off,’ Geoffrey ruled. I clung onto Geoffrey’s shoulders so there was no chance in my falling. ‘I know that you are ticklish,’ Geoffrey threatened.

‘And you are ten times more ticklish,’ I threatened harshly. ‘Now you bought this on yourself so tell me,’ I insisted. Geoffrey shook his head. I quickly grabbed Geoffrey waist before he could stop me. Geoffrey just stared at me, his face full of horror. ‘Tell me.’

‘No.’

‘You’re going to regret this Geoff,’ I stated as I began squeezing Geoffrey ribs making him laugh. ‘Does it tickle?’ I asked as I stood up so he didn’t hurt me. I continued to tickle Geoffrey as he fell from the sofa onto the floor with a “thud”.

‘Ch-Char-Charles, s-s-stop,’ Geoffrey panted.

‘Only if you tell me who this lucky girl is,’ I continued to tickle Geoffrey who was now floundering his arms around on the floor. I pinned Geoffrey’s hands above his head before taking a seat on his stomach.

‘When did you put on so much weight?’ Geoffrey teased. I glared at him as I squinted my eyes.

‘Tell me who it is,’ I demanded as I rested back on Geoff’s legs which were now propped up. ‘Please Geoffrey, I thought you loved me,’ I whined.

‘Mcallgie,’ Geoffrey said something quietly and I couldn’t understand.

‘What?’ I asked as I cupped my hand around my ear whilst smiling.

‘Callie,’ Geoffrey murmured again but a lot more clearly. I couldn’t help but laugh a little. ‘Do not laugh at me; I didn’t laugh when you found your fuck buddy.’

‘I’m not laughing,’ I lied quickly. ‘It’s cute, I guess,’ I admitted.

‘Shut up,’ Geoffrey spat as he pushed me off him before standing up. ‘If you say a word of this to Callie I’ll retire early,’ Geoffrey warned me.

I held my hands up in surrender. ‘My lips are sealed. But you have to ask her out, like for real. You’ll be so good together,’ I begged.

‘You sound like one of those annoying girls I want to kick in the balls,’ Geoffrey threatened and I raised both my eyebrows.

‘How many girls do you know with balls?’ I questioned. Geoffrey just flipped me off.

Jesse’s POV

The taste of ash lingered in the back of my throat. I took a quick sip of vodka as I tried to disguise the taste. ‘Jesse, I was wondering if I could maybe have a little money,’ Harriet asked as she appeared from nowhere.

‘How much is a little?’ I questioned as I tried to look a little...less drunk.

‘Maybe one thousand pounds or more. I need to buy a cot and a pram,’ Harriet explained. I looked at her then rolled my eyes.

‘You shouldn’t be buying stuff like that now,’ I responded. ‘It’s too early.’

‘No it’s not Jesse; I want to be prepared,’ Harriet argued as she crossed her arms over her belly. She had a small bump which was a little weird to say she was only three weeks pregnant.

‘Fine then, I’ll give it you tomorrow. Now stop stalking me,’ I snapped. ‘Piss off,’ I finished quickly as I turned around before drinking more of the alcohol.
