Everyone at the table falls silent.

Felix blinks. 'What?'

'I'm not doing this in front of everyone.'

He hesitates, clearly not loving the idea, but he gets up anyway and follows me. We step into the warm late-summer air. The sun has dipped lower, casting long shadows over the cobbled street. It could've been peaceful, if I wasn't about to verbally explode.

We stop just around the corner of the pub, near the back alley. This spot seems quiet enough.

I turn to face him.

'What's up your ass, Felix?'

'My ass?' he repeats, incredulous. 'I don't have anything up my ass.'

'Bullshit.'

He shoves his hands into his pockets. 'Why did you even drag me out here if you've already decided what I'm feeling?'

'Because you've been a lot more quiet since the party last week. You look like you've been wanting to say something at any given moment, but can't put yourself to it. Also, just now when I told you I kissed someone. All these years before you would high five me. Why do you react in such a passive way, but when Charles of Lisette tell us they've made out with any one you still laugh and joke about it like normal. You're acting like something is up, and I'd like to know why.' I shook my head while crossing my arms.

'I didn't ask for details about your love life, Rosa.'

'No, but you're acting like I owe you some kind of explanation anyway!'

He looked away. 'You don't.'

'Then what is this?' I asked, voice rising. 'You roll your eyes, make sarcastic comments, and then sit there stewing in silence when I breathe near another guy. Do you realise how confusing that is?'

Felix laughs, a single, sharp sound with absolutely no humor in it.

'Are you serious right now?' he says.

I don't answer. My arms are still crossed, jaw tight.

He shakes his head. 'You think this is about you? That every time someone doesn't fall all over you, it must be some hidden declaration of love? Newsflash, Rosa — not everything revolves around your love life.'

'What? No that's not what I mea-'

'You're not that hard to get over,' he adds, voice colder now.

I blink, stunned.
