A dull thud was heard as Rem hit Leandro's head with her own. The young man was the one who suffered the most, letting out a groan and clutching his forehead.
"Ow! Why did you do that!?"
Instead of responding, Rem caught him in her arms. No matter how you looked at it, it looked more like a martial arts grab than a hug.
"Stop, Rem!" Leandro begged in a hoarse voice. "You'll crush me!"
"If I have to, I'll break your bones to stop you from running away! Every time you stray from me, your life is in danger, and there's nothing I can do to help you!"
Felix was alarmed by the maid's attitude and tried to separate her from the butler.
"Rem, stop! You'll make all my work useless if you break anything!"
Julius covered his face to hide an indecorous smile, and Crush sighed as he shook his head. The situation had gone from dramatic to comical in an instant.
Rem loosened her grip on Leandro a little, but didn't release him.
"Promises are worthless coming from you. If you want freedom, you have to give me a guarantee."
"Sure! I'll swear an oath on my soul whenever you want!" He sneered. "What kind of nonsense is this?"
"The same nonsense you have in your head! You almost died again, and I don't know how many times that's happened in a single day!"
She yelled at him, outraged by the audacity with which he complained.
"You two care so much for each other, nya. If you feel that way, shouldn't you be doing other things instead of fighting?" Felix mocked.
Leandro growled at Felix's comment, but had an idea that made him smile maliciously.
"What kind of things? Something like what you and I did in the stable last night?"
"Huh!? You and I didn't do anything last night!"
"Don't play dumb, you know you loved it."
Felix blushed and panicked, turning to his lady to clear things up with her.
"Lady Crusch, he's lying! You're the only person my eyes shine for-nya!"
Crusch sighed and gave her knight a reassuring nod.
"Felix, you can do whatever you want: you don't need to feel guilty or worry about what I think."
"Why do you say that as if you don't believe me? Your Divine Protection should confirm it!"
"Ahem."
Cutting the mood of the conversation, Julius coughed and spoke in a serious manner that disturbed the relaxed atmosphere.
"I'm glad to see you're okay, Leandro. I must say you were reckless to come alone."
The boy grimaced, as if Rem's telling him that wasn't enough...
"Yes I know..."
"On the other hand, what's done is done. What exactly happened here?"
When Julius asked that question, Leandro instinctively turned to see how the place had looked after his fight with...
"Ugh! Blergh!"
Seeing Lye Batenkaitos's dismembered body, Leandro felt a profound disgust, both at the grotesqueness of the image and at the fact that he himself had provoked it, a state of madness that momentarily stripped him of his moral compass. The sight disturbed him so much that he retched and finally vomited.
