You were walking back home from school, the warm spring breeze blowing through your hair. It was a nice day in the beginning of April, the weather finally warming up from the winter months, the cherry blossoms beginning to bloom. April in Japan was such a beautiful season, and you knew all too well that soon the streets would be littered with tourists from around the world. You couldn't blame them. Perhaps if you weren't in a place where you could see such precious bloomed pink flowers, you too would marvel at the sight. However you were used to it by now, so the sight was just a small comfort to you: a sign of the times. It was the season of change and new beginnings, although right now it didn't bring you as much joy as you would've hoped.

Things with Bakugo were...hard, to say the least. Considering how you both had been dating over half a year now, some things had become more clear than before. You had always known Bakugo was an aggressive person, and for some reason you felt at the beginning of this relationship he could be soft around you. As long as you showed him love and affection he'd come around and see he didn't have to see you as an enemy, however that was far from how he viewed you. If you weren't exactly where he wanted you or doing exactly as he wanted then you were a nuisance. An obstacle in his path. Instead of trying to soften him and help him lower his guard, you now spend your days with him trying to stay out of his way. When he needed you, you'd be there. When he told you to buzz off, you'd leave, and that's exactly what you were doing now.

He had said this morning before class you two could go to his place after school today. Your eyes lit up with excitement when he mentioned it, since it had been so long since you both hung out at his place alone. You liked those moments, since he'd never have a reason to yell at you or criticize you as much. That was the only time now you got the Bakugo you loved. However, as you packed up your bag once the bell rang for dismissal, you saw Bakugo walk off with his two friends, all of them huddled up and chatting as they made their way to the classroom door. You had tried going after Bakugo to ask where he was going, that he had promised you both could hang out at his place. Instead he brushed you off, called you a liar, and said he was hanging out with his friends.

"Quit hovering around me like a fly, and find someone else to fucking bug."

His last words rang through your head now as you walked home, your hands loosely gripping your backpack straps. Did you even feel offended anymore by his insults? Right now all you could feel was disappointment that, once again, Bakugo put his own needs before you. It shouldn't surprise you, it never should've from the start. Since the beginning he told you he cared about one thing and one thing only: himself. He didn't care about your needs or being the perfect boyfriend, that's why he told you to keep your expectations low. "I won't be all cutesy or romantic, so get that out of your head. If you date me then don't expect any of that sappy stuff. All I can say is that if you're sticking with me then I won't let anyone hurt you." That's what he told you back then, and for some reason you felt that was good enough.

Sure he promised never to let anyone hurt you, but apparently he was the exception. At first it was never bad, maybe a harsh remark here and there, but now it was out of hand. He saw how much he could get away with, he saw how many times you crawled back no matter how he pushed you away, so now he just let it continue happening. What point would there be in standing up to him now when he knows you've handled worse from him? He knows you still cling to him, crave his rare affection he'd only show when you were alone. You were stuck in a loop you couldn't shake off.

You were his, but he was never yours.

Your heart ached in a hopeless pain you were all too familiar with by now, your eyes stuck to the pavement in front of you until you recognized the fencing of your front yard. You sighed, walking in through the front door after unlocking it, quietly dodging the living room and the soft hums of your mother clicking away on her work laptop, and sneaking into your bedroom to flop down on your bed face down. Another dreadful, pointless day of school and another day not getting to spend time with Bakugo...
