CHAPTER 16

Ramiel’s recovery was swift. The transplant had worked better than anyone expected. The strength returned to his body, but his spirit remained unsettled.

He wanted to thank the donor. To shake their hand. To look them in the eye and tell them they saved not just his body but something inside his soul that had been fading long before illness came.

But no name was given. No contact. Just a quiet note from the hospital: “The donor wished to remain anonymous.”

It haunted him

He wandered the hospital halls when he could, hoping for a chance meeting. He watched families embrace in waiting rooms, children laugh in recovery wards, and strangers cry in corners. But none were hers none were her.

One day, he stood before a large window, looking down at the garden below, when he whispered, “Was it you? Paris girl? Was it you who saved me?”

Raquel thought he was grieving the trauma of his illness. Royal believed it was the weight of the near-death experience. No one knew that his heart remained in Paris, wrapped in the memory of a woman he barely knew.

Meanwhile, Sonia fought to keep things together.

Harmony’s condition remained unchanged neither better nor worse. The doctors gently began to explain the options. Her father refused to give up. Her mother clutched Aria closer each day, desperate for Harmony to see the baby grow.

But each week that passed made the silence louder.

And then, one cold morning, Harmony’s body finally let go.

The machines went quiet.

Sonia, weeping silently, took the envelope from her bag and held it against her chest. She didn’t open it.

Not yet.

Not until the right moment came.

Because the truth wasn’t just for her.

It was for him.

And for the child who still smiled, not knowing her mother had just given her the world.
