The lights in the theatre were harsh and blinding. The machines beeped rhythmically. Harmony lay still, fragile but brave, as the transplant began. Her choice had been made long before the surgery quietly, without fanfare or obligation. She simply wanted to save him.

The procedure was a success.

In a different room, Ramiel opened his eyes to unfamiliar peace. The pain that had gripped his body for months was easing. He could breathe again, sit up, feel like himself almost. His family rejoiced. Reign hugged him with quiet pride. Lady Miriam, tears in her eyes, clutched his hand like a lifeline.

But across the corridor, Harmony didn’t wake.

The doctors called it a rare complication. Cerebral edema. Pressure on the brain. They kept her stable, but the silence stretched into hours… then days...then weeks.

Sonia flew in to stay by her side, whispering stories, playing recordings of Aria’s soft giggles. Harmony’s parents flew in, broken but holding onto hope. Her mother brought Aria into the room one afternoon and placed the baby’s hand on Harmony’s. “Your mommy is sleeping, baby girl. Say something. Maybe she’ll hear.”

The little one laughed—bright and clear.

But Harmony didn’t move.

The nurses placed a sealed envelope in Sonia’s care, labeled simply: “To be given only if…” Sonia held it like fire but didn’t open it.

And far away, Ramiel never knew who had saved his life.
