The day he heard the voice in his head was the day Adrian thought he had finally cracked.

Why am I hearing all of this? Who are you?

The voice rippled through his head, causing him to immediately stop his pen mid sentence. The other students continued furiously scribbling down notes as he looked around the classroom, trying to figure out the source of the voice. No one seemed to be saying anything, all of them too busy paying attention to the teacher as he went through the notes at an insanely fast speed. He scrunched his eyebrows in confusion but continued his note-taking nonetheless. It would be bad if he missed out on the lesson. He would have to go look for someone to copy notes from and he knows none of the students would be willing to let him do so.

I know right, classmates can be such prats.

Adrian dropped his pen in surprise as he frantically looked around the classroom trying to spot the source of this mysterious voice. Nothing. No one was talking to him.

Was he finally going crazy? He knew that all those late night study sessions must have messed with his head somehow, surely sleeping 4 hours per night would make a person go crazy. He must have finally cracked under the pressure.

Go away. Adrian thinks in frustration, closing his eyes and trying to will the voice away.

I don't know how. The voice replies exasperated before Adrian hears something reminiscent of a sigh. It was odd hearing things in your head, like the sounds were sort of echoey and far away but yet feeling intimately closer at the same time.

Who are you and what are you doing in my head? Adrian thinks as he picks up his pen and tries to continue along with the lesson, but by then the teacher has gone so far ahead it was pretty much hopeless. He still makes a feeble attempt to copy off the slides though so that at least he can look through it when he gets home.

Shouldn't I be asking you the same thing? You're the one in my head.

What do you mean? You're the random voice in my head, not the other way around.

Seriously, I have no idea what's going on.

Me either. Um firstly, who are you?

Nick.You?

Adrian.

"Adrian!" Adiran blinked out of his trance before abruptly realising the teacher was standing in front of him as the class stared at him dead-faced, hands hovering over their notes in mid sentence.

"Um yes Mr Parker?"

"I was asking you if this was a zwitterion. But you seemed to have blanked out. Must I empathise with the importance of paying attention in class?"

"Sorry Mr Parker. I was just tired." Adiran blinked before looking at the screen,"It is because it contains both the NH3 group and COO group "

Mr Parker nodded before continuing his explanation. Sighing, Adrian tried to resume the conversation with the mysterious voice in his head.

Hello? Are you still there?

Oh you're back. I thought you disappeared.

Sorry my teacher called me just now.

You're in school now?

Yeah.

Me too. I'm having geography class at the moment.
