After Baby Watson is born, Sherlock starts to gradually distance himself from all his friends, even John. Little by little, he leaves their lives. When the child reaches uni age, sherlock reappears and explains his isolation: to stay far away would protect them. If anything happened to Baby Watson, Sherlock couldn't forgive himself. Sherlock also thought that John and Mary were angry at him for leaving. Then he met up with John and Mary in a restaurant and, to his surprise, all was forgiven.
