ember quinn, whose age was seventeen, a high school senior whose life shattered when her parents, enid and blake, pass away in a mysterious house fire when she was a little girl but survived without a single burn. no bruises. no injuries. no one ever knew how. she only woke up outside without any memory.
she struggled with grief, guilt and wandered with questions as she's sent to live with her mother's sister, eliana and her boyfriend, jacob, in a small middle-class town called Scotts Valley in California.
she was living in a mixed group home for quite a while until her aunt decided she was ready to look after ember and be her guardian.
a few weeks later, she starts to notice strange things. lightbulbs burst and become brighter when she's angry or the air around her and others shimmer with heat, her body temperature rises when she's afraid or at any moment. one day, in a moment of panic and anger she comes across something unexpected and finds out an unnatural gift.
as she tries to understand this thing about herself, she also uncovers secrets about her family—that once involved themself in an hidden world she never knew about.
which makes her wonder about her parents and the house fire as well. then, as days passed by, ember began to suspect more unusual things going around her.
she finds out her mother was apart of something she never wanted to be associated with. now they have taken an interest in ember ever since the house fire, it was unknown how it happened.
following this story, ember goes on a journey with some help to find out the truth about her parents and to unravel more about herself.
