Chapter 15 | Video Game Night

All of a sudden, rounding the corner where Larry just came from is a massive spider. I don't even linger for a second longer, throwing a quick apology to Grunk over my shoulder as I watch his body fall to the ground while the spider runs right over it and continues to chase me. I wasn't far from the main door, but that spider caught up quickly and I felt tense leaving the building.

"YOU'RE OKAY!" Larry shouts I reach outside.

"LARRY, WHAT WAS THAT?"

"It was a spider. Where's Grunk though?"

"Grunk died, he had something wrapped around his head?"

Larry laughs, "alright, let's go back to the ship, 'cause fuck that."

Larry leads the way from the main door, and I can see home base in sight. I notice that it's gotten darker and I hear some low growling off to our right.

"Larry, do you hear that? What's going on?" I whisper, swiping my mouse to make my character scan the area, but I don't see anything; I walk as close to Larry's character as I can.

"Shhhh," Larry starts crouching, also looking around. "They're blind dogs, they react to sound," he whispers back.

I crouch down too, following Larry's movements exactly because I'm not about to be killed. I hear the growl come from right behind me, but I don't dare to turn around. Larry keeps on sneak walking through, so I just follow him. That is, until Tanner, who is already at the ship, sees us and decides to yell.

"HEY! RUN GUYS! YOU CAN MAKE IT!"

Chomp! I died immediately from the blind dog that was behind me eating me because of Tanner yelling, and my headset fills with laughter from Blake and Grunk.

"This motherfucker," I curse Tanner under my breath when I spectate him from the dead after hearing him giggling; it only increased laughter from the other two spectators. Tanner nearly kills Larry with his giggling, but Larry makes it to the ship with nothing, but a $3 key to our name.

"Yumi, how'd you die?" Tanner asks when we all respond.

"FIRST OF ALL TANNER, WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT?" I shout into the microphone.

Tanner starts giggling again, "okay, but did you drink?"

"Whatever, I'm doing it now," I mumble and take a long sip of my beverage. "How did you actually end up dying Blake?"

"I fell off the map bro," he groaned and we all burst out laughing.

After the guys explained how to play to Grunk and I, the game got a little easier, but everyone except Grunk started to get a bit more intoxicated. We had met quota a few times and we were finally going to a new moon that we had to pay for. When we landed on the moon and opened the ship, it was snowing and dark. There were poles with a light on top and a string connecting them, which makes me think about my own little string connecting me to these guys that I'm playing with. I lay my head on my arm that's right below my keyboard, I can feel how hot my flushed cheeks are, and I stare at the string on my hand, fascinated. I'm pulled out of my thoughts at hearing my name being called, because I didn't move past looking out the door of the ship.

"Hey, you there?" Grunk asks, returning to the ship with a few items.

"Hm? Yeah, I'm up, I'm up," picking my head up, I realized how comfortable I was and how tired I actually started to become.

"Were you sleeping?" Grunk asks with a laugh, walking towards the monitor to inspect where everyone was at.

"No, just resting my head," I rub my face and walk my character up to the screen. "Oh my god, Larry is surrounded."
