Why had they kidnapped Tarah? Could she have possibly seen or heard something she shouldn't have? Did they pick her for experimentation? What were they going to do to her?
Ann had to save her sister.
She calmed herself down and took a deep breath. "When do we leave?" she asked tensely.
Ann packed the night before they were set to leave. She insisted on starting the mission earlier—every minute counted when it came to saving her sister.
She shoved clothes into a suitcase the agency provided for her.
Her mind raced as she packed—Tarah was the only thing she could think of.
The agency would provide her with weapons and materials to carry out the mission. She wouldn't be able to bring her usual supplies, like her gun, a knife, or pepper spray, since the airport forbade it. But she assumed the agency would provide replacements.
After packing, she decided to go to sleep. Ann tossed and turned all night, thinking about her sister and whether she was okay.
The next morning, Ann decided to wear something comfortable. She put on a navy blue hoodie and roomy black shorts, paired with comfortable white sneakers. Her mind was racing so much she forgot to glance in the mirror or properly brush her hair—not that it was necessary.
Couldn't she relax for once?
She took a few deep breaths, trying to stay quiet and not wake her fellow roommates, who were still sleeping. She looked at the clock as she left the room.
It was 5:37 a.m.
Ann slowly opened the door and walked out of the dark room, making her way down the dim hallway to the exit. She saw Leon standing there, wearing a white shirt that was baggy at the bottom, perfectly highlighting his chest, along with a pair of gray sweatpants.
'Gosh, does this man only own stupid half-compression shirts?' she thought to herself as she walked toward him.
"Hey, Leon," Ann said when she reached him.
"I'm surprised you could wake up this early," Leon said, looking in her direction.
"The sarcastic comments already? Give me a break, it's like four in the morning!" Ann complained in a frustrated, stern voice.
"It's actually five."
Ann gave him a hard, silent stare.
Leon chuckled. "Okay, fine. How are you feeling?"
Ann thought before replying. "I'm a bit nervous, but since it's my first time on a plane, I guess I'm a little excited."
"Oh, really?" Leon smiled at her.
"Don't be sweet either—it's throwing me off," Ann sighed.
Leon laughed again.
"The agency provided us with transportation to the airport, and they'll be here soon. Are you sure you got everything you need?" Leon asked her.
"Yeah, I got the necessary clothes, except the dress. I'm thinking I can buy one from a local shop after we land," she stated.
A black car arrived shortly after.
Leon got in without opening the door for Ann.
Sigh.
Ann grabbed her bag, opened the backseat door, and got in, sitting next to Leon.
During the car ride, Ann occasionally found herself looking at Leon unconsciously.
They arrived at the airport.
The driver parked in front of the entrance.
Ann got out, admiring the giant airport before her. Leon dragged his bag out of the backseat, noticing Ann gaping at the bright, white modern building standing in front of them. She was intrigued by the movement around her—the flight attendants assisting people with their bags, the loud crowd of travelers walking in and out of the busy airport, and everything else.
Ann and Leon pulled their luggage into the airport and checked them in. Ann was able to carry her small bag onto the plane.
Leon slipped the woman checking the bags a paper, as well as handing her a thick black bag.
"Pass her your bag with your weapons. Since we're government agents, we meet the requirements to bring our guns."
Ann froze.
"What?" Leon asked, examining Ann's tense stance.
Ann turned to Leon slowly.
"...Weapons?" she mumbled, confused.
"Yeah... you have them, right?"
"Yeah, about that..." Ann hesitated.
Leon scoffed and covered his face with his hands in frustration.
Ann's face went slightly red. You could have brought your weapons? The General never informed her to do so. She assumed she would be undercover for the entire mission, starting now.
"Guess you're gonna have to borrow one of my guns," Leon shook his head.
